xxxix. doesn't it say something?

Start from the beginning

"Sure," Gwen nodded and gave her a tight hug.

"Text me when you get to the dorm, please," River said as he hugged her.

"I will, promise," she said as she slipped into her heels and grabbed her car keys from the dish. She rubbed her finger over the ridged end of the key before taking it off her ring and setting it in the bowl. "Bye."

Indie inhaled as she walked the length of the hall, not a thought running through her head because if she thought about it she'd begin to regret running. She did that, she beat herself up for doing it but it didn't change the fact that she had run from her fears. And never once did she go back. It just hurt worse and she didn't want to hurt.

As Indie walked down the hall to her dorm she felt like her heart was about to explode. She could feel her heartbeat everywhere and it made her shiver. She looked around the empty hall as she reached her door and rested her knuckles against the wood. She waited a few seconds but when she got no answer, she knocked again.

"Tina?" She asked, leaning closer to the door. "It's Indie."

She knocked once more, hoping she was there but when she realized the room was empty and no one was coming she sunk to the carpeted floor. She had left her key with Tina and was now beginning to regret that decision so she sat and waited, and waited until she couldn't keep her eyes open any longer.

"Is that?" Daniel asked when he saw the sleeping brunette curled up on the floor.

"Indie?" Tina noticed at the same time and walked ahead of him to her. "Indie?" Tina knelt down, resting her head on her shoulder, shaking her awake. "What are you doing here?"

"I, um..." Indie sat up, rubbing under her eyes. "I'm sorry, T," she sat up and wrapped her arms around Tina immediately. "I didn't mean it. I love you. I'm sorry I hurt you."

"Hey, it's okay," Tina rubbed her hand over her back. "I'm sorry too."

"We're okay?" Indie breathed out.

"Yeah, we're good," she nodded. "I've missed you."

"I missed you too, so much," Indie admitted as she stood up from the ground. "I'm sorry," she turned to Daniel. "I didn't have a problem with you, Daniel. It was me and I took it out on you when I shouldn't have."

"It's alright," he extended hand.

Indie shook her head and wrapped her arms around his shoulder, giving him a hug. "You clearly make Tina happy so I'm going to accept that and not say another word, promise."

"I appreciate it," he chuckled. "I'll let the two of you catch up. I'll see you later."

"Yup," Tina nodded and leaned on her toes as he leaned down to kiss her. "Okay, come on, let's get you inside," she reached into her pocket for the keys, grabbing the bag from the ground in the process. "So, what are you doing here? I thought you moved in with Harry?"

"I did," Indie sighed. "I saw Hunter tonight. With Xavier."

"Oh," Tina dropped the bag on the bed. "And?"

"And he asked me for my permission to propose," she swallowed. "It was like I hadn't made any progress at all. All the feelings and betrayal I felt when I saw them together, it just destroyed me all over again and then I saw that Harry had tattooed my name to his body and everything became extremely real. I couldn't do it so I did what I do best and I left him in New York."

"Left him?" She asked. "He's still there?"

Indie bobbed her head, "I know. I'm a horrible a person."

"No, just one with extremely bad luck," she sighed and laid down next to her. "Did he actually tattoo your name to his body?"

"Yeah," Indie mumbled. "He told me he loves me. Loved. He problem hates my guts right now."

"I doubt that," Tina turned her head. "It'll be okay, Ind. One day it'll get better."

"I wish it were now," Indie stared at the ceiling. "We could be so good together but I'm too damaged. I'm not good for him. All I'll do his hurt him."

"Do you love him?"

"Maybe," she shrugged, changing her answer to the question yet again. "I don't know. I could."

"Then don't run," Tina frowned. "What happened with Xavier, it was screwed up but Harry isn't going to leave you for your brother. He's different. He's good for you. The three years that I've known you. I've never seen you happier than when you're with him so don't be scared of it."

"Easier said than done," Indie frowned. "Can I burrow your phone? I told River I'd text him when I got here and I left my bag in Harry's car with my phone."

"Yeah, sure," Tina nodded and yanked it out of her jean pocket before offering it to her. "Does this mean you're back for good? You're not going to run out on me again."

"Promise," she nodded and sent a text to River from Tina's phone, sighed off as Indie before handing it off to her. "So, your relationship with Daniel seems to have taken off."

"Yup, we were kind of settled but then we took off," she admitted. "Louis was surprisingly cool about it all."

"That's just Lou, though," Indie yawned. "I feel like it's been a thousand years since I last slept."

"Honestly? Same," Tina laughed and leaned her head against Indie's shoulder. "So, what exactly were you doing in New York?" She asked.

"Gwen needs her dad's help for the court hearing in the next few weeks," Indie sighed. "I don't think that went over well. We kind of disturbed her party. We just don't fit there. I think Harry still does though."

"Where'd you see Hunter?" She asked.

"He's taking over the company because Harry isn't," Indie explained.

Tina turned her head, "Don't you think that says something, Ind?"

"Don't I think what says something?"

"The fact that even if Harry hadn't come to this school, Hunter still would have been working at that firm. You still would have met Harry," Tina pointed out. "He's your somebody."

And that's what worried her.
