school ended an hour ago
michael managed to convince me to come with him to his house over food and videogames
i look out the window as the sun was setting, bathing the sky in orange and red and gold
my mind went back to stacy
she's probably sitting on her swing now, waiting for me
i barely left her ever since the night at the cliffs
i realized she was a girl made of glass,
sunlight reflecting through her invisible cracks on her calm days
i couldnt let her fall and shatter into pieces
i can't let her down
"you okay luke?" michael asked
i nodded, grabbing a handful of chips, averting his worried gaze
"man i can't believe it. there's only a few months left 'til we're in college. we're seniors-and this is our last year, our last everything. i actually think I'll be bawling my eyes out on graduation"
i rolled my eyes "we'll have a nice laugh because of you then"
michael snorts "have you started filling out college application forms?"
i shook my head.
i haven't really thought that far;
i wasn't sure what i wanted to be or where i wanted to go.
the future still seems like the future.
we kept on talking
(michael doing most of it)
about mundane teenager stuff
he was thinking of throwing a party sometime,
doing something we'd regret a day after and laugh about when we were thirty
"still got your hands full with your girl?"
"don't be like that" i said, my voice rising barely
"okay okay, i didn't mean it like that" he said defensively raising his hands
i scoff looking out thinking of stacy, my stacy
"what's she like anyway? we still haven't met her yknow" michael winked
"she's nothing i've expected. she's distant and she'll most likely come across as cold but that'll only make you want to know her more. she's always deep in thought. though she doesn't say much, she'll make you feel the comforting sort of silence, she'll make you know that solace is a friend. she has one hell of a music taste, and she wants to go to her favorite bands' concerts badly. she tells the best stories. she makes me feel something. she's a poem, a sonnet personified and she's so much more"
he looks at me, grinning "god, you're clearly smitten"
i just smile back
"but we still have yet to meet her"
"soon buddy, soon"
"what's her name? you never mentioned it?"
"oh uh-stacy. stacy hunterson"
he looks at me with confusion
i raise my eyebrows at him
"what, is there something wrong?"
"what did you say her name was?"
he stays silent, his face pale , morphed into fear
"luke you're not serious- cut the crap man, it's not funny"
"michael, what is this all about" i was growing irritated
"stacy hunterson died in a car accident six years ago"
