Chapter 136 –Where You Belong– Marku's POV

"Killian!" I roared.

The Fae had the cell door open and was crouched next to me in less than a second. I jerked the dagger out of Raine's chest and tore her shirt away from her body so that I could use it to apply pressure to the wound. Killian quivered with undisguised animosity. "Why the fuck did you try to kill her?!"

"I didn't try to kill her!" I hissed. "She did this. Can you heal her?"

His head snapped toward the weapon. "Is the blade silver?"

"No," I replied through gritted teeth. Thank fuck I hadn't strapped on a silver dagger today. I could have just as easily. If I had, Raine would be dead right now.

"Let me see the wound. Did it puncture her heart?"

"Yes, I think so." Which was the reason I needed him. A vampire could heal from a normal dagger strike, but one to the heart, even if the blade was not silver, could still be deadly. I lifted my hands, pulling up the blood soaked shirt. The edges of the wound were already starting to knit back together. Profound relief flooded through me. She was healing. It must not have nicked her heart. I dropped my head to my chest and took deep breaths.

She began to stir, a deep groan releasing from her throat. Her eyelids fluttered. My head jerked up. "Make her sleep!" I needed time to figure out what I was going to do with her.

"Of course." He placed a hand on her cheek and commanded, "Sleep now."

Her eyes closed completely and her body stilled. I rocked back, settling my weight on my heels. He looked up at me. "What now?"

I had planned to leave her down here, torture her into submission, break her.

But she was already broken.

And I couldn't stand to see her in pain.

Fuck, what had she done to me?

I growled in frustration. It was too late to worry about why or how things happened the way they did. Right now, I couldn't seem to force myself to do anything other than care for her. I snapped, "Prepare her old room."

Killian tilted his head to the side, his jaw clenched. "My lord, her room is already prepared with the items you requested."

"No," I growled. "I want it all gone. Remove every bit of the submission furniture and accoutrements. Bring it back to the way it was before she left."

"Of course, my lord." He looked pleased with my orders.

"Have a hot bath ready for her in my suites. She will stay with me until I am certain she is no longer a danger to herself. And get me our best healers. I want them to see her right away. Surely there are treatments that can soothe her suffering."

He nodded, mentally recording the tasks assigned.

"Go now. I need to speak with Talon and then will head toward my suite."

With another nod, he stood to his feet and walked out. I carefully picked up Raine's sleeping body and walked to Talon's cell. He shot to his feet when he saw me, glaring with his fists clenched.

"Plans changed," I growled. "It is no longer my intention to hurt her. Quite the contrary, she will have unparalleled care. And as much as it may annoy me, you are a part of that."
