"Okay, I'm listening," I told Brooke as I sat down on my bed. I wasn't going to admit out loud that I needed her help, because I was still skeptical. This could turn out like another Isaac episode, so for now all I was going to do was hear her out.
Brooke made herself at home, plopping down in my computer chair and spinning around in a circle. She'd sent Isaac out on a secret mission, so it was just the two of us.
"So what did I tell you before?" she asked.
I sighed and rolled my eyes. "That I need to make Jackie jealous."
"Wrong," she said, putting a foot down and bringing the chair to a halt. "I said that you need more than one person to get this done."
Wait, huh? "What are you talking about? You never said—"
"Every good relationship needs at least three people to work," she went on, ignoring me as if I hadn't spoke at all. "It's all about desirability. From what Isaac's told me, Jackie wanted you when you had a girlfriend. Because you were unavailable you were more desirable. The fact that you had a girlfriend made Jackie more interested in you."
"I don't think that's exactly—"
"No interrupting," Brooke snapped. "The tables turned when Jackie started dating Alex. She became unavailable, which made her more desirable. And what happened? You broke up with your girlfriend for her. People want what other people have. It's simple logic. The third person makes all the difference."
"So we have to make her jealous," I answered, slightly annoyed. That was exactly what I'd said at the beginning of our conversation!
Brooke let out an exasperated sigh. "Yes, captain smarty pants, but my point is that we need a another person to do it."
"I get that you're trying to be the leader or whatever, but I'm not an idiot Brook. I know how to make someone jealous. I just need to make out with someone else in front of her."
"There are plenty of other ways to make someone jealous, Cole."
"Yeah, well, that seems like the most direct route."
Brooke nodded her head. "I suppose you're right, but we have to raise your desirability level."
"Okay..." I said slowly. "Hey, wait? What's wrong with my desirability level? I'm freaking sexy."
As if I'd said the funniest thing in the world, she let out an unattractive snort. "That's a matter of opinion."
"Whatever. Lets go do this already."
"Do what exactly?"
"Put the plan in motion. We can dance together or something." I got off the bed and held out a hand to help Brooke up.
She burst out laughing, and I had to wait an entire minute for her to calm down. When she finally wiped the tears away, I crossed my arms over my chest. "Are you going to tell me what's so amusing?"
"Oh, Cole! How cute! You thought you and I would—" She broke out into another fit of giggles, unable to finish her sentence.
"You just gave me a whole speech about making Jackie jealous, but you're not going to help me?" I exclaimed. God, this girl made no sense whatsoever!
"Of course I'm going to help you. But you didn't think it would be you and me making her jealous, did you?"
"What's wrong with that? It's not like I have a whole list of single girls from New York willing to help me. I just moved here. Besides, it's not like I have rabies or something."
