The sound of quiet sobbing was the first thing that you registered in your mind. Your eyes flickered open to be greeted by bright lights that shone from above. The cold, wet grass tickled your face and you tried to move you hands in order to sit up: only to find them tied tightly behind your back.

Glancing upwards, you saw your mother and Thea, both of whom were crying. They were on their knees and also had their hands tied. Lying a little way in front, was Oliver who appeared to be unconscious.

Something yanked you up from behind until you too were sat on your knees, facing Oliver. Turning your head slightly, you saw Slade Wilson, who was smiling at the scene in front of him.

"What's going on?" You whimpered softly, starting to shake softly with fear.

Slade continued to smile, as if this was nothing more than a game to him. "One of will die for what your brother has done."

Oliver began to stir slightly. Slade stopped speaking and stared intently at him. His eyes held the crazed look of hatred and need for revenge.

"Oliver," Your mother sobbed, "Oliver."

Your brother opened his eyes slowly and then they widened at the sight which met them.

"I was dead the last time you were offered this choice," Slade said.

"Slade," Oliver whispered, fear creeping into his voice but he didn't look surprised at the sight of the man towering above him.

"Oliver, what's happening," Thea said, continuing to sob as Oliver pulled himself into a sitting position to face Slade.

"I often wonder how you looked when he pointed the gun at Shado and took her from me," He said, slowly advancing towards Oliver and kneeling next to him.

"You psychopath," Oliver hissed at him, tears filling his own eyes. "Shado, Shado wasn't yours!"

"No, she was yours," Slade growled, "Until you chose another woman over her."

"That's not what happened!" Oliver yelled at him.

"It is what happened. It is," He snarled back, getting to his feet. "She told me!" He thrust his hand behind him and pointed.

You glanced behind you but no one was there. Slade really was insane. You were going to die at the hands of this psychopath.

"What do you mean, she? There's nobody there!" Oliver spat at him.

"Slade," Moira began, notes of hysteria creeping into her voice. "You were on the island with Oliver."

You stared, disbelievingly at your brother. 'What else had not been a total lie?'

"I thought I had known true despair until I met you son," Slade growled, facing your mother. "I trusted him to make the right choice."

"Let me make the right choice now. Kill me," Oliver begged.

"No!" The three of you sobbed.

"Choose me please," He tried again.

"I am killing you Oliver," Slade threatened, drawing a gun from under his coat, "Only more slowly than you would like."

"Don't," Oliver begged once more.

"Choose," Slade said, pointing the gun at your mother.

"Don't!" Oliver shouted, tears threatening to fall.

"Choose!" Slade yelled again. You were trembling violently now and tears were falling down your face.

"Please."

"Choose," He snarled for the third time, moving the gun to point at Thea.

"I swear to God, I am going to kill you!" Oliver shouted in panic and anger.

With an enraged cry, Slade yelled "Choose!"

"No! No!" Oliver growled.

Moira made a move to stand and clambered as best she could to her feet.

"Mum? Mum, what are you doing?" Oliver said, panic evident in his voice.

She had made up her mind. "There's only one way this night can end."

"No!" You and Thea protested, realising what she was doing.

Your mother turned to face Slade, "We both know that. Don't we, Mr Wilson?"

"Mum, please don't," pleaded Oliver.

"All my children will live." She spoke bravely but could not disguise the fierce look of fear behind her eyes.

"Mum, what are you doing?" Thea sobbed — though she knew only too well.

"Mum, please!" You pleaded as well.

"I love you. Close your eyes."

"No!" All three of you yelled.

"You possess true courage," Slade said, the gun up to Moira's head, advancing slowly. Then, he lowered the gun and tucked it back into his coat. You let out a shuddering breath.

"I'm truly sorry..." He continued slowly. He turned his back on you, seeming to regret his actions. "You didn't pass that onto your son." He span back around, wielding a long sword. You let out a small scream as the blade pierced through her.

"No!" You were all yelling and sobbing. Frozen to the spot, your eyes couldn't leave the sight of your mother, sword stuck through her body and protruding from the other end. She collapsed to ground, dead.

You scrambled back, away from the body, screaming and crying. Trying to shuffle away, you continued to stare at the unmoving body of your mother.

"There is still one person who has to die before this can end," Slade said, advancing slowly on you.

"No," Oliver begged once more.

The murderer pointed his sword at you and then, as though as an afterthought, lowered it again. Oliver collapsed to the ground in relief.

But his relief was short-lived.

Slade grabbed the bonds which held your hands tied together and yanked you harshly to your feet. A gasp of terror escaped your lips. Oliver began to beg once more but the man dragging you along took no notice.

With the strength of a man twice his size, Slade swung his fist towards you and struck the side of your face. For the second time this evening, you felt yourself drifting into darkness as your kidnapper threw you roughly into the car.

The last thing you heard, before sinking back into unconsciousness, was the voice of the man who killed your mother.

"When I take everything else from you, when I rip the life from the ones you hold most dear, remember, this is your fault and you will hold that guilt forever."
