"Yuto?" The boy completely ignores you.
"Shun! You need to stop this duel! She's from Fusion, she's dangerous!" Shun's eyes remain on you.
"No, Yuto. That this girl is a Fusionite gives me even more reason to keep fighting. I can win this."
"No, you can't Shun! Look at her monster! You are an amazing duelist, but you need to know when to retreat so you can live to fight another day."
"But, she might know where Ruri is!" Shun clenches his fist. "Are you finished, yet?"
The last part is addressed to you. You just stare. You weren't sure whether to continue or not. Either way could make you look like the enemy, like a real Fusionite. Walking out of this place might be harder than you thought.
"Shun..."
Yuto is cut off by Shun. "Just attack already!"
"Shun, listen to me! She doesn't know where Ruri is!"
"What do you mean, Yuto? Make up your mind already! First you say she's Fusion scum and now you're defending her!"
"No, I'm not." His response is weak at best.
"Shun, just stop this duel and then listen. Beating her won't help, and unless she has gained the right equipment to card people in the last two days, then her winning poses no threat."
"So she's Fusion, but not a soldier."
"Sort of. Just, please stop fighting!"
You raise your hand above your duel disk in a silent question. Shun's expression remains one that promises death at the first wrong move, yet still he mimics your actions.
As one, you place your hands on top of your disks to forfeit the duel.
Yuto's relief is audible.
"Now talk." All the heat seems to leech from the room with those two simple words.
"I-I-I..."
"You don't have to scare the poor girl half to death! I know more than enough to fill you in.
"Yuto removes his goggles and mouth guard as he approaches his friend.
"Fine, but I'm not done with her." Yuto nods.
"Her name is (y/n) (l/n). She is 14 years old [same as Yuto! J But if you want to change it you can.] and was born in the Fusion dimension." The growl that escapes Shun at the mention of this other dimension borders on animalistic. "When she was... 4, I think, her parents tried to flee the Fusion dimension. Her father was carded in the process, but (y/n) and her mother made it. Somehow, she lost her memories of her time in Fusion and grew up in Standard completely unaware of her heritage."
Yuto looks to you for confirmation. You nod, and then quickly look away, not wanting to put any thought into the flutter in your stomach at the simple eye contact.
"Two days ago she was ambushed by Obelisk Force. They wanted her to come back to Fusion with them, and told her of her real history. When she didn't want to go, they forced her into a duel. She won, and that's all I know."
Shun snorts, and strides up to you. You can't help but cower back a bit, and then kick yourself for being so weak.
"So you're telling me that she was born in Fusion but grew up here without her memories, like a do-over, and that she doesn't like Fusion and what they stand for? That she is not the enemy?"
Yuto checks himself and you see a shadow of realization flicker across his face. "Yes."
"I don't believe that for a second." Yuto's grey eyes flash with hurt as Shun continues. "She's obviously a spy. If she won't tell us where Ruri is, then the question still remains of what to do with her."
Shun takes a step back to assess you, and if anything the new distance scares you even more.
"If she won't give us the information we need, then she is useless to us. Now all that is left is to give her the fate she deserves."
Shun raises a hand to his duel disk to fiddle with some settings quickly. Your brow creases in confusion, but the look on Yuto's face beyond tells a different story. His stormy eyes are wide with... with... with fear, you realize. Why should he be afraid? The threat wasn't even aimed at him! And what could be so scary about a duel disk anyway?
You don't have to wait long to find out.
Shun stabs at a final button on his screen and then smiles - actually smiles. It is the most terrifying thing you have ever seen.
"Say hi to your daddy for me."
A blinding light streams from his duel disk as his words hit home, and your wide eyes meet Yuto's for the last time.
[A/N]
Sorry for the late update, but I hope it was in some way worth the wait... maybe?
That's all for now!
