I made my way down the lake, the cool and fresh breeze tickling my face. I kept walking further, jumping over bushes just to stand right in front of the lake. I tugged on my bag, the one I brought with me with the first aid kit and other useful supplies. I’m not sure why I did bring my bag, but it was easy to carry.
I was never scared to be on my own, not even the tall trees seemed to bother me. My face lightened as I saw how beautiful the lake was. The only colors involved were an opaque white, black and a dark navy blue. It was quite the scenery. I loved the way the trees shadowed over some parts of the lake. It was really peaceful, so quiet, only the lake’s small waves moving forward then back into the lake.
I bent down and danced my fingers with the lake. The cold water froze my fingers instantly, but it was such a great feeling, ironically. I guess I really did like lakes, rivers, and beaches because my mom would always take Brandon and me, after her divorce with my dad. It soothed her and it did the same to me. I kneeled down and watched the moon dance off of the waves.
Suddenly, I heard the leaves rustle. I turned my head but saw nothing. It must be the guys trying to scare me or someone going to the bathroom. Where else could you possible go?
I shook it off my mind and focused back on the beautiful lake. But no, footsteps grew louder and more leaves rustled against each other. I stood up and turned around. Nothing. Maybe it was the nocturnal animals? I’m sure it was that. I don’t think anyone would be wandering the woods…like I was.
"If it’s you guys I swear I’m going to kill you guys in the morning!” I warned enough for them to hear.
I felt my body turn cold. If they were playing with me well it started to creep me out. I saw nothing out of the blue, nothing had moved. I looked away and heard quiet and menacing chuckles coming behind a bush. My heart started to thump louder until my ears flooded with the sound. I stood up, standing tall and strong. Well maybe not so strong considering I was having the worst case of goose bumps.
"C'mon guys. Fine you scared me, there I said it." I said, trying to act cocky. But instead my voice shriveled. I took a few glances before turning back to the lake. But once I did, I regretted coming out here. I didn’t want to be here, I wanted to leave. Now.
Her eyes looked bold, dark, and possessed. Her pupils were larger, making her face seem evil. She had dark, black hair that looked like a bright blue under the moon. I stood there, frozen even though my heart pumped more blood than necessary. She wore dark clothing which I couldn't make out in the dark. She smiled, her mouth was full of venom.
I looked down at my bag which was on the ground. I think I do have something to hit her with.
"Oh how cute, the poor girl is full of fear and unarmed." She started to walk towards me, taking slow and scary steps towards me.
"W-what do you want?" I asked. I slapped myself internally, what happened to tough and self-reliant Amanda. I raised my head and glared at her.
"That's not going to work, Amanda." She shook her head, cracking her neck at the same time. Amanda? How did she know my name? I swallowed harshly; she was so far yet so close. I wish my voice was stable enough to scream.
"How do you know that?" I whispered. This isn’t good, she knew who I was. Maybe this was a stupid dream, or I was just seeing things? But if it was a dream why did it all feel so real?
"I do. And glaring won't help because you are tempting me to kill you know. I’m sure you’d like to die fast, wouldn’t you?" I swallowed. Kill? She wanted to kill me, why? I’ve never seen her in my life, my whole seventeen years of existence.
