Chapter Fifteen - Silver Thrones

Several nights later...

"Recently, a few things have happened and it made me realise that my song Home didn't feel right anymore."

Annabeth paused, listening as the crowd cheered and screamed. She smiled. "Thanks, guys.

"Anyway, I sat down - about a week ago, actually - and I sat and I rewrote it and I feel some sort of connection to this song. It's called Silver Thrones, and I hope you like it."

The crowd screamed again as the band began playing the familiar chords and Annabeth took her microphone out of the holder and walked around onstage.

"Makeup doesn't hide the trees
But neither does a mask
If I had my way, you'd be far away
Away from the snap, click, flash.

"Sometimes you're better off alone
Yet days after you'll always find your home...

"Do you remember
When we used to be the victors?
Except victors wear golden crowns and sit high on their silver thrones
Now we're the victims, the victims of a war."

Annabeth kneeled in front of where her fans stood, holding out her hand for them to grab, pushing and shoving closer as Annabeth smiled and continued to sing.

"Long ago, I taught you how to breathe
You breathed to the trees
And spat out the useless shit you say
How long did it take to convince me to stay?"

Annabeth stood, facing the crowd as she poured her heart and soul out into the song.

"Do you remember
When we used to be the victors?
Except victors wear golden crowns and sit high on their silver thrones
Now we're the victims, the victims of a war."

Suddenly, the noise in the arena grew louder, as everyone starting screaming and pointing at something behind Annabeth.

The singer whirled around to come face-to-face with none other than Percy Jackson.

Her microphone fell to her side.

His smirk seemed to dazzle under the stage lights and Annabeth couldn't help but notice that he had - surprisingly - combed his hair.

"Annabeth, I'm sorry." He said, and though only she could hear it, Annabeth felt like everyone in the entire world heard his words. "I went too far. Can you please forgive me? Can we be friends again?"

He was clever. He had Annabeth cornered.

If she said yes, then it would be on the front page of every gossip magazine in the world.

If she said no, it would also be on the front of every gossip magazine. But for a different reason.

Annabeth's fans had no idea of what was racing through her head at that moment.

"Yes."

Then her arms wrapped around him and the two friends squeezed each other until Annabeth had to pull away and Percy interlaced their fingers - the fan's screaming stinging both their ears.

No one noticed the false smile on Annabeth's face.
