Epilogue

The snow falls quickly. I snuggle my mouth into my scarf while holding the little girl's hand. She laughs when a snowflake falls onto her nose and she rubs it away.

"When will daddy be here?" She asks me.

"Soon Kaede, soon." I tell my daughter before yawning.

"How long is soon?" She asks me.

"I don't know." I tell her.

"Will we go pick up big brother from Uncle Subaru's?" She asks me.

"Yes."

"Tomorrow is Christmas." She tells me.

"Santa is going to bring you lots of presents this year." I reply to her statement.

"I'm hoping mummy and daddy will have a wedding for Christmas." Kaede moves closer to me for warmth and I pick her up.

"Kaede. Mummy and daddy are having a hard time fitting in a wedding."

"But I want to be a flower girl." Kaede frowns and I laugh.

"One day."

I hear a beeping of a horn and I see Natsume's car. Rushing over I put Kaede into the back and put her seatbelt on for her before getting into the passenger seat.

"Sorry I'm late. I was really busy at work." He tells me and fixes his tie before starting up the car again.

How odd, Natsume tie is always perfect, I frown and look out of the window.

"Let's go get Tanaka." Natsume tells Kaede.

"Yes!" Kaede cheers.

"Hi." Tanaka says before getting into the car.

"How was basketball?" Natsume asks.

"Pretty good." Tanaka says before looking out of the window and shakes the snow off his head. "The score was 4-3. We were the 3."

"That's not bad at all." I tell him

"I hope we get into the games after Christmas holidays." Tanaka says.

"I'm sure you will."

Switching on the Christmas lights I switch on the kettle to make hot chocolate.

"Chiyo. There is something I need to tell you." Natsume enters the room and I feel butterflies flutter around my stomach.

"What is it?" I ask gripping hold of the side.

"I want you to open a Christmas present early." He tells me taking my hand pulling me back into the living room to where the Christmas tree sits.

"Here." He passes me an envelope.

I look at him and to both of my children who stand there waiting for me to open it.

Exhaling I open the envelope and read it out loud.

"Chiyo, you are invited to the wonderful wedding of Satō Chiyo and Asahina Natsume on the... 26th of Decemeber. H-How?"

"I've been planning it for a month." He tells me "That was why I was late today, I need to deliver the roses."

I sob and hug him tightly.

"Merry Christmas Chiyo." Natsume kisses my forehead and I hear Kaede cheer with happiness and sings about being a flower girl while Tanaka smiles happily.
