August 18, 2002 (1 Month later)
A loud bang came at my door, causing me to drop my clothes in my hand and run to the door. Jake entered in as soon as the door open, beginning to pace around the living room.
"Umm..." I muttered as I closed the door.
"Someone just sent this to me" He said, handing me a note.
I read the letter, my mouth dropping open. Jake sat on the couch and leans his head back, closing his eyes.
"Someone kidnapped Brandy?" I asked in disbelief.
"Who would want her?" Sara asked as she walked pass and entered into the kitchen. I laughed but then stopped immediately when I saw Jake's face, clearing my throat.
"This isn't funny. They want a million dollars; where the hell am I supposed to get that by next week?" He questioned.
I straddled him on the couch and took his face into my hands. "Why are you worrying about this? I mean not to be rude but..." I trailed off.
"Doesn't she have a father who happens to be a billionaire?" Sara interjected, leaning against the wall.
"I understand you guys don't like her, she's not my favorite person either... but I grew up with her and the note was addressed to me so I'm assuming her father has no idea"
"So now you're going to take out a loan...?" I asked hesitantly.
"Don't get me wrong, the company can pay for this without a hit, but I'm not willing to do that. Business is business, nothing personal... I might have to pay for this myself." He groaned.
"So let me get this straight... You are willing to pay one million dollars for a girl... while your baby could use that to go to private school and university... ten times?" I asked.
He suddenly smirked at me, gripping my hips. "Are you finally admitting you're pregnant?"
"No, I'm just laying out the options here." I defended, resting my head on his chest.
He kissed my forehead and sighed. "Tell me what you want me to do" He whispered into my hair.
"It's up to you..."
"Honestly, you should just go away with Elizabeth to visit her parents. Maybe everything will blow over. You should let her dad know, let him take the responsibility. You're not responsible for her." Sara said, leaving us alone again.
"I like that idea" I told him.
"You never told me you were going to visit your parents." He smiled.
"I never told them either, I'm hoping to surprise them" I replied. "You should come along; it will be good to get to know them"
"Alright" he sighed. He was obviously stressed about this. "Give me a few hours to go see Brandy's father and inform him of this, and also pack." He responded, kissing me lightly on my lips.
I walked him out and then returned to my half-packed luggage.
We were in a taxi in Georgia heading to my parents house. I was beyond nervous; I didn't think this through. What if Jake judged me after seeing where I was raised; I wasn't born with a gold spoon, so to speak.
He still seemed a little tense from the news about Brandy and I didn't blame him. It's true that I didn't like her but no one deserved to be kidnapped, not even her.
