francisxyzk is an amazing account home to some well loved Horror books such as 'The Surgeon'. Their book inspired me to start writing so this was an amazing opportunity for me!

Where did the idea for 'The Surgeon' come from? It's an amazing book by the way!

Thanks so much. The idea came from the fact that when we hear the word 'Surgeon' we all think 'male'. So, I started the first chapter with that inherent prejudice/ perception in mind. And from that came the whole 'gender swap' twist that drives the story.

Why did you start writing on Wattpad?

I wanted to figure out who my audience were and what genre I was best suited to. The first story I posted was 'Snatched' and that was relatively well revived. Then I posted a few quite literary stories that didn't fare so well. When I posted the first chapter of 'The Surgeon' I knew my genre was Horror/ Mystery/ Triller, and that I appealed to a largely Young Adult audience.

What's your favourite book on Wattpad?

The Numbered by @bnifan

Who are your biggest writing inspirations?

This might sound weird, but it's: Scooby Doo. Yep, I know Scooby's not a writer, but when I was a kid those cartoons really grabbed me; and they inform my writing today. I love the sense of mystery, murder, secrets, revelation and lasting friendship that's in those toons, and I try to include that in my stories.

You have 24 books published on Wattpad at the minute, what books can we expect to see from you in the future?

I have a 'Fan Fiction' that I'm toying with. But I can't reveal who the protagonist is, until I'm ready to post 😉

The Surgeon was the first Horror book I had ever read. How does it feel to be inspiring so many people to start reading and writing Horror books?

It's a little daunting and quite a responsibility. But, I like to think that I inspire people to include heart (as in love) in their horror, as it makes for a more satisfying read.

What's been the best message someone has ever sent you on Wattpad?

A reader did their final college essay on The Surgeon, and they messaged me to say that they received a A+ grade ☺️

What keeps you motivated to keep on writing?

Wattpad readers; and I love telling and sharing stories.

And finally, what advice would you give to a new writer on Wattpad?

Don't look at what's popular, don't look at what's hot, don't chase followers or try to collect numbers- just write a story you'd like to read and keep on writing it.
