A month has gone by since I gave birth to my two children. A boy and girl that I still haven’t given names to. It was kind of hard considering they didn’t have a father to help me raise them, so Dylan, Dalia, Derek, Julia, and I have been thinking of names since weeks before they were born. Still, we had no luck finding them.
I rarely slept in the past month that they have been born. They squeal and cry and always seek my attention. If they happen to go to sleep, one of them wakes up crying and eventually so does the other one.
“Someone looks tired,” Dylan smirked as he came into the kitchen. I have been staring at a bowl of now lumpy soggy Cheerios for half an hour now. My cheek resting on my fist and my eyes trying to stay open, I’m surprised I haven’t face planted into my cereal yet.
“Ha, ha,” I laughed humorlessly. “I’m so tired. I know ya’ll are at least making an effort to help, but I think I need to take care of them myself sometimes. I won’t always have you all around,” I mumbled.
“I know, but you do need some rest. You look awful.” I rolled my eyes and smiled. The months I had been with the Striker family had been great. I had gotten close to Dalia and Dylan since they’d been with me for three months while Julia and Derek had been traveling. They’ve been so nice to me.
“Geez, thanks Dylan,” I mumbled sarcastically, causing him to chuckle.
“How about you go take an hour nap and Dalia and I, will personally take care of the twins. I will wake you up in an hour. I promise,” Dylan bargained. An hour nap sounded amazing right now. I closed my eyes and smiled.
“I don’t know if I should…” I said melodramatically. With a swoop of air, Dylan was standing beside me in an instant.
“Oh, I think you should,” He whispered softly in my ear. A shiver ran down my spine as I leaned into him. “Go on, I promise we will take care of them while you get your rest,” Dylan said casually on the other side of the kitchen now. I opened my eyes and smiled at him.
“Fine, fine, I will take a nap,” I placed my hands on the table to help me ease up better and walked out of the kitchen. I lay down in my bed and closed my eyes. The house was quiet, just the way I like it. Though, I felt like my babies needed me, making me feel uneasy. I shook the uneasiness away and soon I drifted into a deep slumber.
The dream was dark and I was alone. The sound of sorrow-filled wolf howls echoed throughout the street making the hairs on my back stand up. Someone called out to me. A name that I automatically knew was mine: Faith.
The person called out to me, I didn’t recognize the voice, so I was hesitant to run to it. It came closer and did someone else. It came faster and it growled ferociously at me. I couldn’t tell what it was, but it craved something, my blood.
“Katie! Wakey wakey! I got great news!” The sudden shouts that rang out in my dream caused me to shoot up from my bed. I nearly had another heart attack when Dalia was sitting on the edge of the bed bouncing up and down crazily.
“Oh, look you’re awake! Guess what?!” Dalia said excitedly. I ignored her question completely and laid my head back on the pillow to ease the beating of my poor heart.
“What time is it? How long have I been asleep?” I asked her. Dalia shrugged and crawled closer to me on the bed.
“Probably around three hours, but guess what!” My eyes got bug-eyed as I realized Dylan didn’t wake me up. I tried to get up, but Dalia tackled me back down. “Guess what!” I groaned.
“What Dalia?” I asked angrily. She looked at me sadly with big puppy dog eyes. I rolled my eyes. She’s such a drama queen. So I asked her again more nicely. "Yes, Dalia, what is it?"
“Okay, so I got a call from mom and dad. They’ve found someplace for us to stay close by! Isn’t that great! We get to move closer to them!” She excitedly said, spitting everywhere. I smiled and nodded.
“Yeah, it is awesome.” I said getting up and walking out of the room. The house was still quiet, which still scared me. I walked into the living, no one was there. I walked into the kitchen, still no one in sight. I walked into Dylan’s room and sure enough, he was asleep both of my babies sleeping soundly on either side of him.
I leaned against the side of the door and smiled. Dylan has always been so helpful since the twins arrived. He’s helped changed their diapers and he really knows how to keep them two asleep. I felt a soft touch on my arm. I turned a little and saw Dalia motioning me to follow her.
We walked into the living and I sat down on one of the couches. “The other exciting news I was going to tell you, which you rudely interrupted by leaving the room, is I thought of some cute names for the twins." I nodded, signaling for her to continue.
“Kay, so how about Camden and Callie?” I thought about them and liked how they sounded. Then another name came to mind.
“I kind of liked Grace though for a girl,” I confessed. Dalia put on her thinking face and then snapped her fingers together.
“I got it. Callie Grace. It’s cute!” I smiled. That sounded even better. I sighed a heavy sigh of relief. I now don’t have to stress of baby names. I heard one of the babies crying so I took off quickly to Dylan’s room and picked up the one that was fussing, before it woke the other one and Dylan, too.
I brought her into the living room and sat down trying to make her be quiet. She cried and fussed with me for a few more minutes before relaxing into my arms. When the twins were born they had no hair, but now they had a hair full of it. It was black and it grew quickly. They both had a strange swirl of blue and purple eyes, but they were magnificent. I could stare into them forever and just think about my past life and who their father was. He must have been pretty amazing to let him knock me up when I was still so young.
A couple of days later had gone by, and we were now ready to leave the house to go to our new home. Then, I will start my life as an assistant nurse for Derek, and care for my children. I was ready to start a fresh with my new family and my babies. I was ready to make something out of my life, because deep down inside, I remember knowing someone who would want me to do just that. I already told everyone about my dream and they should start calling me by my real name, Faith, and they welcomed it with open arms.
“Faith, are you ready to go?” Dylan asked. His handsome face held a smile that made me melt for some reason.
“Yeah," I nodded, "let’s go.”
