"He isn't picking up," Logan breathed out to no one in particular since Collin left to go to work and left her by herself.
This morning, she had received a vague text from Mr Hemmings, telling her to just stay at home and that he didn't need a maid for the next few weeks. She wasn't sure if he had fired her by just a text, or that he was not exactly content with how she was cleaning the house but what she did know was that this all was weird and nothing like Mr Hemmings.
Interrupting her from her thoughts was the ringtone of her phone blaring through the empty and silent apartment. Her eyes darted down to the lit up screen as she held her phone in her hands.
"Hi?" She spoke up after sliding her thumb over the screen, accepting the incoming call from her supposed to be boss.
"Why do you keep calling me, Ms Atwood?" He asked her sternly, and it took her a while to answer, shocked by the fact that he could change and switch mood by night, so quickly.
She cleared her throat, tapping the fingers of her free hand against her waist while talking, "Uh- I was just w- yeah, just wondering why I won't have to come over? Am I doing something wrong?" She spoke silently, her eyes focused on the ceiling above her.
He breathed heavily, and that was the only sound she was able to hear for the next few seconds. She was afraid he was going to have an outburst right on the phone, but when he spoke up she was surprised.
"I uh- I won't be home, actually." He told her softly, seemingly calmed down after he heard her small voice through the speaker of his phone.
Ashton stuck his thumbs up at Luke, who nervously chewed on his bottom lip while he waited for Logan to answer him.
"Oh, that makes sense." She said calmly, "I was afraid you were going to fire me already." She told him carefully, a nervous chuckle following when she didn't hear Luke speaking.
"Fire you?" Luke spoke up after sitting up straight, eyebrows furrowed, "I will never fire you, Logan. You do your work really well."
"Oh, I wasn't really aware of that," She mumbled, watching the muted TV in front of her. "Thank you though."
"You're welcome," He chuckled, rubbing his eyes as he watched Ashton nod, silently telling his best friend that he was doing well, even if Luke was a nervous wreck.
"Yeah," Logan breathed, "Well, uh, I'll hang up then. Good luck or have fun with whatever you're going to do."
Really? Really Logan?
"Oh uhm- yes, thank you." Luke spoke up after he realized he had to go along with his own lie, otherwise she would notice he was just totally making things up.
"Alright, bye Mr Hemmings." Logan said, hastily pressing the end button before releasing a deep sigh, running her fingers up and down her face.
Luke looked at the screen of the silver device that was currently placed on the table, telling him that Logan had hung up on him.
"Well, for how small and cute she sounds, she's really feisty and dominating when it comes to ending things," Ashton snickered, looking up when Luke didn't answer.
He just stared at his phone, in disbelief that his employee had hung up on him. But then again, he understood her. Why the hell would she believe him going on some sort of trip, in all of a sudden?
"I can't believe I'm fucking tricking her into thinking I'm gone when all I wanna do is stay in bed." Luke murmured, "I hate my testosterone for making me feel like this all the time."
"Making you feel what?" Ashton asked the blond with furrowed eyebrows, not quite catching up with what he meant.
"Making me feel so attracted to her," Luke sighed, running his long and slender fingers down his drained face, "She has a fucking boyfriend for God's sake, I shouldn't be feeling this way."
"You're not doing anything wrong if you just admire her from afar Luke," Ashton spoke up after a three minute silence between the two of them, "Admiring is a whole other level than being obsessed with her. She won't be freaked out with you."
Luke furrowed his eyebrows quickly after he heard Ashton's statement, "And you're saying that after I told Logan to stay away from me for two fucking weeks? Are you even human?"
Ashton chuckled after Luke's little outburst, knowing that Luke was aware of Ashton wanting the best for his friend, "Yes, but as if right now, you really are obsessed with this girl. Be glad you told her to stay away, otherwise she would've been gone after realizing your a nasty and perverted freak."
Luke rolled his eyes after the hazel eyed guy joked around, but in the back of his mind he was aware that Ashton could've been right about everything and that Logan could easily be freaked out if Luke was too observant and too pushy.
He wasn't the one to come in between two people when they had a good relationship, but Logan was making it hard for him not to. She was such an angel, such a beautiful and pure human being and Luke could totally understand Collin was in love with her for over two and a half years.
Luke was sure that he wasn't able to have Logan to himself. That was all way too good to be true, and it was only able to happen in his dreams if he wanted to.
She wasn't going to let Collin go anytime soon, and Collin wasn't even thinking about leaving her side. That's what Luke noticed when the couple went out together.
But what about a little teasing? He wasn't going to get in the way of Collin, or their relationship, and maybe it got something good out of it for Luke himself as well.
Oh Luke, you don't even know what you got yourself into.
