TREY POV
I know what ya'll thinking! Ya'll might say I ain't shit for making a pass at Chris' baby mama, but let's be real here. Chris and I have been homies for years now, and he doesn't have the greatest track record when it comes to women. He mistreats them, and I know that I can be the man Sabti deserves. Chris may have thought he was that nigga when he broke up Sabti's marriage to DeVante, but he wasn't doing much if they aren't together anymore. I'm in the studio with my friend Kehlani recording a remix of her song "The Way."
She had finished recording her vocals when Sabti walked in. I was hella confused! Why would a woman her age be in the studio with our young asses?
Sabti: HEY NIECE!!!
Kehlani: HEY AUNTIE!!!
Me: Niece!?
Kehlani: Oh yeah, Trey. Sabti's my aunt.
Me: Nah, that can't be. Ya'll look so...young!
Sabti: Well, that's the truth. Lani, you good?
Kehlani: Yes.
Sabti: How are you, Trey?
Me: Fine.
Sabti: Are you ready?
Kehlani: You gotta check your phone more, Titi!
Sabti: You're cancelling again?
Kehlani: I have to meet with the label for a business lunch.
Sabti: Ugh, fine girl. The girls' are at Zircon's anyway. I restocked the store, what am I supposed to do now!?
Kehlani: There's a Jamaican restaurant around the corner, go there and pop a movie in.
Sabti: Sounds do-able.
Kehlani: Orrrrrr..........you and Trey can chill until I get back.
We winked at each other. Little sister always looking out.
Sabti: Girl please, Trey doesn't have time for my old ass.
Me: Actually, I'm hungry. Let's eat!
Sabti: Fine. But this is NOT, and I do repeat NOT A DATE.
Me: Cool cool, I can drive.
Kehlani: Here, my crib is around the corner so just go there and keep it cool. Bye! Love you guys!
Me: Well, you ready to go?
Sabti: Sure sure.
.....
SABTI POV
I swore up and down that this wasn't a date, but it really feels like one! Trey opens the door for me, pulls out a chair and keeps telling me how beautiful I am! I've been spending my life dealing with bottom shelf men I forgot what a real man was. We spent a great part of the evening talking about our dreams, aspirations, goals, and our past relationships. Trey really is a great guy beneath his fame and success! So after five months of getting to know each other, I caved in and decided to give it a try. I'm back in the U.S. for an extended two weeks so why not take him up on his offer? I was checking up on the girls and dropped them off over Kehlani's.
Me: Okay, so bath time is at 6, dinner is at 7-7:30, movie time is from 7:45-8:45, and be sure to put them in bed by 9:15 SHARP. Kakuna will butter you up in trying to put her for bed but you--
Kehlani: Aunty, please! I know what I'm doing. I can handle them. You just worry about having fun with Trey.
I sighed and hugged her.
