Pietro sighed in disbelief as he stood up from the chair and slumped on the couch, Wanda following suit.
"Why do you always beat me so easily? Wait... you didn't read my mind, did you?" he turned towards her, and she wiggled her eyebrows playfully.
"You always cheated when we raced together, it's only fair I do the same," she replied, sticking her tongue out as Pietro threw a pillow at her, making her giggle.
"Well, would you look at that. Our little Wanda is smiling," Clint walked in the room and ruffled the twins' hair before walking towards the kitchen, pouring himself a cup of coffee.
"Where is Nat? I was thinking of training with her a bit. You know... I haven't done much recently," Wanda asked, standing up to reach her friend. Clint raised his eyes from the cup and smiled gently at her.
"She's taking a nap, but she'll be very glad to hear it from you."
Wanda attempted to put up a smile, but her expression turned into one of pure pain as she felt her stomach burning as if someone had stabbed her multiple times.
She let out a painful groan as her knees hit the ground and she clutched her stomach, closing her eyes to keep her breath steady.
"Wanda, what-" Pietro was cut off by the same throbbing pain and almost managed to reach his sister before falling down due to the burning sensation.
"Hey, you two, what's wrong?" Clint exclaimed, the cup soundly breaking as it fell on the ground. The man crouched next to the twins as he tried to understand if something was wrong, even if he didn't spot any sign of an injury.
Ten minutes passed before they managed to stand up still and rest on the counter of the kitchen, still breathing heavily as they checked their stomachs. They tried to say something, but they were stopped when Tony barged in the room, followed by Natasha.
"Guys, there might be a problem with Steve and the others. What happened here?" the two neared their friends as they noticed the expression on their faces, their eyes widening in terror.
"I think there's something wrong. We need to reach them as soon as possible," Clint said, watching at the others as they were deep in their own thoughts.
"I'm going to get the quinjet ready," Natasha said without further ado, leaving the room quickly.
"I'll be faster. I'm leaving with Wanda right now," Pietro said. He stood up and put up his firmest expression even if pain was still clear.
"Are you sure you can make it?" Wanda asked, placing a hand on his shoulder. He nodded and invited her to climb his back before taking off without any other information. Tony looked back at Clint, who simply nodded and they both headed off to the roof of the Tower.
"Lay her here, quick!"
Hazel's body was gently placed on the hospital bed as Bruce walked frantically around the laboratory, searching for every tool that could have helped.
"She's losing too much blood! She's having a crisis!" Steve yelled, staring at the machine that showed Hazel's pressure drastically rising.
"I'll do my best, Steve, just...don't talk," Bruce said, trying not to scream as Steve moved aside, letting him be as he stared at Hazel's body. He had never felt so helpless in his life. So useless and desperate as the girl he loved was fighting for her life and there was nothing he could do to help.
"Can I-" he tried to say, but was immediately stopped by Bruce.
"Go away. Take Lucy and lock her up somehow. I'll call you if I need help," he said firmly, his eyes completely blank of every emotion. His eyes almost scared Steve, but he knew he wasn't going to transform. Not if Hazel's life was at risk.
