Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
That was the sound that was beginning to call to me through my subconsciousness and begin to wake me up from this dreamless sleep I was in.
Taking in a deep breath, I slowly moved my eyes under my lids to get them ready for whatever it was I would see when i wake up. or more like open them that is.
So opening my eyes just a slit to see what was happening around me, I quickly shut them again since it was too bright to look at anything.
So I waited a bit before attempting it again.
It was a little bit painful, but I managed it. I had my eyes opens in a very thin slit to see that everything around me was white.
I was in a hospital I think and the beeping was a machine that I think is hooked up to me. At least I think that's what it is.
I was still very tired, but i was alert enough to check myself over by thinking which part of me doesn't hurt? I would have thought about which bit of me does hurt, but pretty much all of me does. So thinking and concentrating on what doesn't narrowed it down for me.
There isn't any part of me that doesn't from the top of my head to the soles of my feet. I hurt all over. Damn it.
' I see you're awake. How do you feel?" Some damn fool had to ask me.
" How the fuck do you think i should feel, you shitty arse." I snapped back at him opening my eyes a little wider to see some dick was standing there at the end of the bed smiling at me.
Since he was dressed like a doctor and even had the stethoscope around his neck to prove it, I guess he is the doctor.
"Still a bit testy I see. You are very lucky to be alive young lady. You had blood poisoning and if a medic hadn't of caught it in time, you wouldn't have been here to argue with me." Was what the doctor was saying to me with a gentle smile on his face.
I don't know him. I don't like him and I don't trust him.
Where the hell was my knife? I wondered.
" You've been here for a week coming in and out of consciousness. We put you on antibiotics as soon as you were transferred here. We have been trying to get in touch with your family but haven't had any success." he went on to say to me as he checked my blood pressure, then stuck a thermometre in my ear.
" They are all dead. There is no family left." I said to him feeling very tired as I lay there on the bed with this doctor ministering to me.
Then he was checking all of my wounds, especially the one on the back of my shoulder.
" You are very lucky young lady. Those bites from that dog attack were very nasty ones nd even though your friend had patched you up fairly well, it still wasn't good enough. Then there was those stab wounds you received from your attacker. Your friend was quick to tell us how you got them. It was a bit silly of you stumbling into a gang war wasn't it?" He was saying to me but making me a bit confused.
"What friend and what gang war?" I asked him as i carefully looked at at him.
"Your friend, Mr Green, said that you had inadvertantly come across some drug runners while you were out camping with your brothers. The DEA had already been aware of the outfit and were not quick enough to save your brothers. They were just glad that they were able to save you." He went on to say to me as he was then bringing the blankets back up to cover me after checking me.
