"Why are you doing this?" I spoke. I sat on Josh's bed, hugging my knees. "I wouldn't cheat on you Josh, you should know that."

Yet again, my boyfriend, Josh, was being a complete and utter jerk. Nothing I ever done was good enough, nor what he wanted. When we were on good terms, he was such a sweetheart. He'd constantly tell me how beautiful I was, and how lucky he was to have me, and how lucky he was to be able to call me his. I was his 'princess', or so he said.

But when we were arguing, he was an absolute monster. It was as if he took pleasure in bringing me down, and watching me fall. He'd say everything and anything to make sure he was the one winning the argument, or to make sure he was the one in control. He'd make things up, and he'd bully me. And despite being gentle and lovely when we were getting along, his disgusting personality when we aren't was making me question the relationship altogether.

"Shut up, [Y/N]." He roared, before raising his clenced fist and sending it flying through the air, punching his bedroom door. I jumped, my attention diverting to the gaping hole in Josh's door.

I paused for a moment. "Do you know what? You're an asshole," I growled. I wasn't putting up with his unnecessary behaviour any more, nor letting him continue with this 'big man' act.

"Hm?" He said, progressing towards the bed. "What was that?"

"I said," I spoke, raising the volume of my voice. I pushed myself up off the bed, before taking a step towards him, pointing my finger, "you are an asshole."

I didn't get the chance to register his actions in my head before his closed fist came flying towards me, making sharp contact with my cheekbone, causing me to stumble backwards.

"I-I," he stammered, his face softening, "[Y/N]."

I raised my trembling hands, gently holding the stinging area. He attempted to grab my hand, but I pulled out of his grip. "D-don't touch me."

I pushed passed him, heading for the door. "Don't ever speak to me again."

I left his house, slamming the door behind me. I had no phone, and I had no money, but I knew exactly where I was going.

I sat cross-legged on his bed, as my best friend, Tyler, lay beside me, trying his best to comfort me.

"Please don't cry." He pleaded, holding my hand in both of his, "He's not worth your time, [Y/N]. He doesn't deserve you."

I fanned my damp face with my free hand, pushing my hair away.

"What even happened?" He questioned, scrunching up his face in confusion.

"I don't even know why we were arguing in the first place." I groaned, "H-he accused me of cheating on him, and then we argued a little and he punched the door, and then I called him an asshole and that's when he hit me and-"

"Wait, what?" Tyler spat, pushing himself up from his previous position. He towered above me; as he glanced down at me sitting on the bed, clenching his jaw. "Um, I won't be long." He said, his soothing voice as calm as ever.

Shit.

"I-it doesn't matter," I stuttered, "just sit back down."

He was heading for the bedroom door, as I tried my hardest to pull him back. "Let me go, [Y/N]." He growled, yanking his arm from my grip.

"Please Tyler," I begged, as the tears began to flow again. "Please just leave it."

"Why, [Y/N]?" He yelled, throwing his arms up in the air. "Why should I just leave it?"

"Because it's nothing to do with you and I don't want trouble!" I yelled back, doing everything I could to prevent him from going over to Josh's and beating the shit out of him. "Anyway, why do you even care?"

He stopped dead in his tracks, before turning to face me.

"Why do I even care?" Tyler laughed, doing his best to avoid eye-contact. "I care because I love you, [Y/N]. I care because I've loved you since the day I met you. I care because you're the most beautiful, amazing, genuine girl I've ever laid eyes on, and I know you don't deserve that. I care because you deserve someone who'll treat you like a princess, who'll treat you the way you should be treated. And I know you'll never love me as much as I love you or see me as anything but your best friend, and I know I'll probably regret telling you this, but that does not stop me from being able to go over and beat the living daylights out of the jerk that disrespected you."
