I opened my eyes to the vision of a dingy prison cell. It was beyond hot in here and my body was covered in sweat. I also had a pounding headache. How the hell was I going to get out of here?
"You're awake." I turned my head around as I heard the male voice. His voice was incredibly smooth and as I looked up at him, I saw that he was extremely good looking too.
"You've been out for a week." He told me.
"Seriously? But Liam only hit me once." I moaned. How could I have remained unconscious for a week? No wonder I felt dirty and sweaty.
"They wanted you to remain unconscious." The guy said as he came to sit beside me on the bed. Upon instinct, I shifted away from him.
"I'm not that dangerous," he smirked. I smiled nervously.
"Why would they want me to remain unconscious?" It was a legitimate question. Why did Liam want me to remain unconscious? Did he think I would try to run away? But I couldn't possibly find a way to run away from this hell hole.
"Don't ask me, I don't know."
"You're Jayden Paxton, aren't you?" I asked him. It had to be him because Liam had wanted Trey to lock me up with someone named 'Jayden'. He didn't appear to be dangerous at all.
"Glad to know I'm famous!" Jayden grinned.
"I'm Emelia," I told him. Perhaps he could help me get out of here. Maybe both of us could get out of here and run away. The prospect of life in this prison cell was not appealing. I was only twenty three for crying out loud!
"I know,"
"How?"
"I'm an enver, not a werewolf." He told me. I had never heard of envers before. That didn't mean that I was out of this world or something. I did know about different creatures such as hellhounds but I had never heard of envers.
"What's an enver?" I asked, feeling slightly dumb.
"Basically, we have everything to do with the mind. We're not physically strong like werewolves but we have mental abilities. For instance, I can feel what you feel and I can change it, I can read your mind and I can change your opinions and your thoughts. And I can see the future but I can't change that."
"Reading minds? So that's how you knew my name?"
"I also know that you think I'm incredibly good looking." Jayden smirked and I punched him on the arm lightly.
"If you can change peoples' thoughts that why haven't you changed that guard's thoughts and walked out of here?" I asked him. If he could all that then he could easily manipulate people.
"I did and I did walk out but they caught me and then the guards were asked to drink a potion that would block my powers from their minds."
"Why are you locked up though?"
"Envers aren't liked generally because they manipulate and they're liars but their abilities are very useful. Besides, there are only a handful of envers who exist now so packs want to use them to their advantage."
"So the Alpha wants to use to his advantage during war? Is that why you're here?" I asked. If what I said was true then I felt absolutely disgusted by Max and Liam. They were going to take away Jayden's whole life from him.
"Not exactly." He said, "A year ago I was kidnapped by rogue wolves who wanted to settle in this territory. They wanted me to manipulate Alpha Max into giving them some land. They meant no harm, actually. They just wanted a place to live peacefully without an Alpha trying to control their lives. I don't know why they picked Alpha Max, though. Anyway, we came here but Alpha Max was with Alpha Titus, who figured us out instantly and we were thrown into prison."
