We arrived in Santa Barbara after six and I helped Ethan unload the car, meanwhile Alex was slowly waking up from her nap in the backseat. Then I heard a door open nearby and high heels walking over the pavement.

"Hello, mother." Ethan greeted and hugged the woman quickly.

"Sweetie."

The woman had dirty blonde hair, a tight black skirt along with a white blouse and by my judgment she was around her late 40's. It wouldn't surprise me if she had done some facelift to avoid "looking old".

"And you must be Alexandra's roommate." She said and smiled to me.

"Yeah, that's me. Nice to meet you Mrs Clark."

She squeezed both of my shoulders before looking behind me.

"Now, where's is she?"

Just then, Alex crawled out from the backseat and rubbed her sleepy eyes. Her mother walked over to her, and Ethan told me to follow him inside.

I could tell right away that their parents were rich because of the luxury first floor. White marble floor with white walls, fancy paintings in the entire hall and no sign of dirt whatsoever. Ethan took off his shoes and I did as him before hearing Alex and her mother approaching the front door.

"No dear, leave your stuff here! Our maid will take care of it." Her mom told me.

I slightly frowned, but did as told and placed my bag on the floor next to my shoes. Then Alex grabbed my wrist to give me a house tour.

The place was amazing. So much space and everything was extremely white and clean. It amazed me to be honest because it was nothing like my house back home. I was almost afraid to touch anything, in case it would break or get dirty.

Alex showed me around and eventually decided to show me her old bedroom. She guided me down a long corridor and opened a door to our right. There were a narrow staircase on the other side of the door and she told me to go up.

"Alex, this is amazing!" I exclaimed once I stepped into her bedroom.

It was bigger than our dorm, and she even had window ceiling, a small balcony with city view. In the middle of the room she had a king sized bed and against one wall there were a big shelf filled with books. She had a walk in closet with slide doors and other stuff I could only dream of owning.

"What's your secret?" I asked, turning to look at her.

She just laughed and sat down on her huge bed.

"Nothing."

"Oh come on, your family has a beach house and this amazing two floor apartment. You even have skylights!" I said and pointed at the roof.

"It's not that fun if it rains though." She casually said.

I took a look around her room. She had some really good books in the shelf and some interesting photo frames on her desk. When I was done snooping around I laid down next to her on the bed.

"What do you wanna do next weekend? It is your nineteenth birthday on Sunday, right?"

"How does everyone know that?" I groaned and let my head hit one of the pillows.

Alex shrugged. "Your cousin doesn't know how to keep her mouth shut. So, what do you wanna do?"

"Actually, I have plans the entire weekend."

"Really?" She asked.

"Yeah, well-"

"Wait, hold that thought. I'll go get something to eat."
