"Are you kidding me? You're telling me that Tyler is a matie? There's no way!" I screeched at him after he told me what I just repeated back to him. He'd been talking to me for ten minutes and I hadn't said one thing back, until now.
"I'm telling you, Rave, Tyler is definitely a matie. He's making you feel this way about him. He's forming to what your mate is. Essentially, he will become your mate if you don't do something about it!" Ryder screamed back.
A matie is a lycan that was never meant to have a mate. Maties pick someone that they like and want to be with and then they use their powers to form into that person's mate. It works better if the person the matie picks hasn't met their mate or their mate died. It's easier because the bond between the matie and their chosen person will strengthen quicker. There have been cases where a matie has gone after somebody with a living mate, but eventually, the matie starts to become the mate. When a matie starts to become the mate, the actual mate drifts away from the person the matie has chosen. As soon as the matie becomes the mate, the old mate becomes a new matie. It's all very technical and confusing, but I don't tend to think about it.
"OK, so what if he is? I haven't met my mate yet, so why not him? What's so wrong with Tyler?" I questioned him, even though I knew Tyler wasn't a matie.
"Because what he's doing is wrong! He's taking somebody away from you! He shouldn't have the right to do that, you should be the one to choose!" Ryder threw his hands in the air.
"But Tyler is not a matie!" I screamed.
"Yes! He is!" Ryder yelled back.
"Gah!" I ran my hands threw my hair as I shifted my weight on either foot. I placed one hand on my face and the other one fell to my side. "How do you know he's a matie?" I said through my hand, slowly removing it and closing my eyes. I tried to cool myself down by not looking at Ryder because I knew if I looked at him, I'd get angry again.
"Because he hates your mate!" My eyes flashed opened as I stared at Ryder.
"I have a mate?" I asked, not believing him. "Who?" Was my next question.
"I have no freaking idea who it is! But, they know who you are. Or, at least, they've seen you before. And Tyler, for some reason, hates his guts. That's why he's trying to become your matie. Do you understand?" Ryder asked, his eyes pleading with me to believe him. I was still too shocked to find out I had seen my mate. But, why would I believe Ryder? For all I know, Tyler could be my mate! I mean, it all makes sense. Why I always feel all happy when I'm around him and why I can't stop thinking about him.
"Tyler's not a matie. There is no other mate." I told Ryder. He just rolled his eyes and was about to talk when I cut him off. "There's none of that because Tyler is my mate."

After I told Ryder that I had found my mate, he punched the nearest tree and ran off. I started to walk back towards my friends when I heard Ryder howl. It was full of pain and it chilled my heart. It was the longest and loudest howl I'd heard in a long long time.
I shook my head from thoughts of Ryder and continued on. I figured that I should change into a wolf to get there quicker so that's what I did.
My thick silver and red coat had leaves and sticks thredded throughout it and before I stepped out of the woods, I tried scratching and picking them off. I always thought it was funny that my coat was silver and red because each color means something.
