Chapter Twenty-Seven

"D-Damn...I was so close...victory was so close and I lost it..." Tom croaked from the floor, flat-out on his back.
Red, bloody marks and painful-looking bruises were peppered all over his face. Along with two black eyes and a crushed dream, Tom's body felt weak and numb all over; his body was now totally incapable of moving a muscle, but even if he was still able to move, Tom didn't see any point in getting up anymore...
Marco Diaz had single-handedly destroyed his plans yet again and, just like the time at the airport, the redhead could do nothing but lay on the ground and accept his defeat...

The fight that had ensued minutes before was nothing special, it was more like a one-sided beat-down rather than an important, game-changing battle and Tom had obviously been the sole victim of the attack...
Marco, on the other hand, had defeated his arch-enemy and saved an entire off-map island from the very brink of devastation; but of course that wasn't what was going through his mind as he freed the entire Butterfly family from their tight, uncomfortable ropes.
"Marco! Thank God that you're okay! We were so worried!" Star exclaimed, as she, Sear and Marco shared a three-way hug.
Tears were shed and the trio never once felt like letting each other go of one another. The roommates had been separated for days on end and now that they finally reunited, it was all a little bit too surreal!
After about a minute of pure hugging, the Safe Kid felt a sharp stinging pain across his face that completely stunned him!
"S-Sear?" He asked, totally confused. "Why did you..."
"Because! You drank that potion like an idiot without knowing what was inside of it!" Star's doppelganger replied, glistening clear tears running down her cheeks; making her blue eyes sparkle like gems.
"Sear's right!" Star added, fighting her twin's corner. "You were this close to swallowing poison, you know!"
Marco lowered his gaze, obviously ashamed of his actions.
"I know it was a bad move...but if I didn't do it, you guys would've lost your home country to that guy" he explained, pointing a finger in Tom's direction.
"I suppose so, but..."
"Star! Sear! Are you two alright?" Moon asked, worriedly, as embraced her two daughters in a caring hug.
The queen looked in Marco's direction, tears welling up in her eyes.
"I-I can't thank you enough! You have saved an entire nation of people, Marco Diaz!"
"Indeed, we must hold the celebrations as soon as possible!" River added, hugging Marco, as if he were his son. The King of Mewni was known to be quite a hardcore hugger at times!
"B-But I was going to just head back to Echo Creek..." the Safe Kid replied, un-used to all of this royal attention all in one day.
"Nonsense! You must to stay to be our guest of honour and partake in the festivities! I am sure that you can leave the kingdom of Echo Leek for a couple of days, yes?"
"Uhm yeah, sure. I suppose I can stay here for a few days..."
"Excellent! I shall ask the servants to prepare everything tomorrow, but in the meantime, can you show Marco Diaz to his room, Star and Sear? It has been a long day and we all deserve a well-earned rest. I will call the authorities to arrest that redhead scoundrel right away!"

"You are gonna love the celebrations, Mr Hero of Mewni!" Star smiled, as she, Sear and Marco walked down the long and seemingly-unending corridors. "Parties are super crazy when they're being held over here!"
"R-Really?" The bruenette replied, still feeling a little bit uncomfortable about all the attention he was recieving.
"Yeah! You're gonna have the time of your life!"
"I still can't beleive you came all the way from Echo Creek just to save us, Marco! We really are grateful for that" Sear smiled, as she pecked the bruenette's left cheek.
"Well, I'm nothing without the two of you, so of course I was going to come and get you! I just didn't want to lose my two favourite girls in the whole wide world!"
"Awww...you're so cute!" Star cooed, as the trio arrived outside of Marco's new room. "Rest up well, okay? We've got a lot fun to have tomorrow!"
"I will. Later, you two!" The brown-haired teenager smiled, as his two blond princesses walked away, back to there own room, waving and returning his smiles.
