Chapter 3 ~ The Calm Before The Storm

Hanji wakes up with the feeling of something on her chest and face. She lifts her head slightly to see (Y/n) standing on her chest with her paws on Hanji's cheeks. The feline meows and gently swats at her caretaker's face.

Blinking the sleep out of her eyes, Hanji puts on her glasses, turns her head to look at the clock, and nearly falls out of the bed when she sees the time. "OH MY GOD IT'S TWELVE O'CLOCK ALREADY!? WHY DIDN'T YOU WAKE ME UP, (Y/N)!? SO MUCH TO EXPERIMENT WITH TODAY," the brunette screeches as she messily and quickly sheds her nightwear and slips into a simple T-shirt and jeans.

(Y/n) quietly follows the science-crazy woman into the kitchen as she scrambles around to prepare food. Clumsily, a plate a salmon is placed on the floor in front of (Y/n). A bowl of cereal is set on the counter and Hanji begins to shovel the breakfast food into her mouth. Before she can even get halfway through her cereal, a slight tugging at her jeans leg pulls her away from her food. Hanji looks down to see the salmon untouched and the cat staring at the fish as if it was an alien.

"OH, YEAH," Hanji exclaims loudly," I FORGOT TO HEAT IT UP!!"

Bouncing off of the stool she was seated it, Hanji grabs the plate and, quite literally, drops it in the microwave. She obnoxiously drums her hands against the counter top until the fish is ready to be taken out. A loud beep startles the brunette and bring her out of her own little world. Cheering at the minuscule accomplishment she had made in remembering how to care for (Y/n), Hanji sets the dish onto the ground once again.

This time, (Y/n) is able to eat the fish and does so as soon as the ceramic dish touches the floor. She happily munches on her meal as Hanji does the same, except that the scientist, oddly enough, eats more messily and unmannerly than the cat. As sad as it is, that is the truth and has even been an interesting topic of discussion for Levi and Erwin.

~Time Skip~

After eating their morning meal, the cat and caretaker parted ways. Hanji went into the guest room and has isolated herself inside since breakfast. (Y/n) wandered over to her kitty tower and took interest in it for many hours, including taking a really long nap at the very top of the tower.

Hours upon hours of time goes by before Hanji leaves from her temporary room for more than an hour. Other than bathroom breaks and quick trips to the kitchen sink, the brunette never left her room until 8 in the evening. This left (Y/n) alone to entertain herself. The kitty tower can entertain for so long.

Leaping off the tower with grace, the young feline lands on her feet with no trouble and walks around the house. Despite having been living in the house for several years, (Y/n) decides to explore the, in her perspective it's large, house. She wanders off into every part of the house, minus the guest bedroom that her caretaker is currently occupying and has locked.

(Y/n) explores through a closet in the hall and nudges at the door with her paw. It creaks open with a speed that matches a snail. She impatiently nudges at the door again, this time using her head, and walks into the closet to see a variety of bottles in different sizes and shapes along a stack of rags and large sticks with odd shaped cloths or hairs at the end that she's seen her human companion run across the floor. A clear bottle with an odd cap catches (Y/n)'s eye and she paws at the bottle, knocking it over.

Just as (Y/n) knocks over the container, Hanji come out of her room to see a (h/c) tail swishing from behind a closet door and a blue liquid seeping from beneath the door. Knowing that the closet in the hall houses Levi's cleaning supplies, the woman rushes over to find the curious cat walking up the cleaning chemicals. She only gets her paw in the cleaning chemical before Hanji immediately snatches up the feline.

"NOOOOOOO! BAD (Y/N)! HOW DID YOU GET INTO SHORTY'S CLEANING SUPPLIES?! DON'T YOU KNOW THAT CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT?! DON'T DO THAT AGAIN," Hanji scolds (Y/n), expecting her to comprehend every word she said.

(Y/n) only understands that her name was said and meows in response. She lifts her paw up, wanting to lick the odd, wet substance that is soaking her once clean fur. The brunette woman holding her snatches (Y/n)'s paw and holds it away from her head before she can taste the substance, screeching in a language the feline can only assume to be a language of the humans. Hanji rushes into the bathroom with a speed that could easily match a kid on a sugar high with the intention of washing off the cleaning chemicals from
(Y/n)'s fur as quickly as possible.

Without realizing it, (Y/n) looks around to find herself in the bathroom. The sound of water running reaches her ears and (Y/n) turns her head to see the tub filling with water. Once the tub is filled half-way, Hanji shuts off the water with (Y/n) still in her arms and a hand keeping her paw away from licking distance.

"Ok, (Y/n)! Time for a bath!"

Surprisingly, at least to Hanji, (Y/n) jumps into the tub by herself without Hanji having to force her in. 'Ehhh...She actually likes baths?!' The brunette watches with interest as (Y/n) swims around in the bathtub and splashes around playfully. Hanji has rarely, in all the years she's been alive, seen a domestic cat who actually likes to be in water. In most cases, all the cats she had observed hated the water and would even get violent at times just to avoid a bath. Apparently (Y/n) is one of the few who loves it.

Cheering ecstatically at her little discovery, Hanji pulls out a bottle of cat shampoo that Levi had made sure she knows about. She rolls up her sleeves and pours out some of the gooey liquid. (Y/n) quickly wades over to the edge of the tub where Hanji is standing by when she sees the familiar bottle being poured. She purrs contently as the brunette washes her fur.

'Today wasn't too hard,' Hanji thinks to herself as she washes the suds off (Y/n). 'This will be so easy.'
