Her Song {A StarCo Fanfiction}

Chapter Twenty-Five

"Marco!" Star cried out, trying to pull free of her shackles. "I'm coming to help you! Hang on!"
"Don't give up!" Sear added, also trying to struggle free of her seemingly inescapable binding.

Marco tried to regulate his breathing as he looked up at Tom. The same guy he'd beaten once before and now he was on the receiving end of the rich kid's attacks...
"Man, you have no idea how long I've been waiting for this moment, Diaz" the redhead chuckled, cracking his knuckles. "Now then, how do you want to be finished?"
The Safe Kid wanted to say something, but pure exhaustion prevented him speaking a single syllable.
"Huh. I guess you don't mind then. That's good." Tom mumbled, before punching Marco across the face, his expression was scarily unchanging.
The bruenette felt his head jerk to the left, causing him to yelp out in pain.
"Y'know, Marco" the redhead began, as he struck his opponent yet again.
"I still don't know why you'd go so far for some hyperactive princess and her useless clone. I mean, if you just left them alone, you wouldn't even be here getting beaten up by me"
Marco heard his attacker's words quite clearly, but he wasn't going to react to them. That was exactly what Tom wanted and the Safe Kid told himself that he wouldn't cave in.
"W-What do you know about us?" The bruenette croaked, accidentally letting the words slip out of his mouth.
"What do I know? Well, I know that you're trying to be the King of Mewni by 'loving' Star and Sear. I mean, come on, man. They're just so loud and clingy! You're always risking your neck to save them and they never bother to do anything to defend themselves! I'm pretty sure that Star flopped out of that prestigous princess school and everything too...What reason do you have to stand by them other than the fact that you can potentially end up ruling a whole country?

'One...'

"Those two are just irresponsible girls, Marco. Not grown-up women. Guys like you and me need women to satisfy us, am I right? So why don't just go back to Echo Creek and forget about all of this, huh?" Tom bargained. "What do you say?"
Marco kept his head down, trying to block out the stinging pain that was covering the majority of his body. He needed to retain every ounce of his energy...

'Two...'

"What is there to think about? I'm going to spare you and let you return to your old life, isn't that the deal of a lifetime?"
Marco remained quiet, trying to bide his time.
He could see the anger and frustration in the redhead's eyes as the bruenette remained calm and collected.
"Answer. Me. Marco. Diaz!" The rich kid shouted, angrily, hitting Marco after each word. "If you don't answer, I'll just end everybody in this room! I'm serious, dammit!"
"Yeah.. me too..." the Safe Kid mumbled, quietly.
"What?"

'Three!'

Marco jumped up all of a sudden, ramming his head straight into Tom's surprised face. Blood filled the redhead's mouth, as he jumped back, holding covering his injured part.
"You know nothing about me! You know nothing about Star or Sear! All you know about is yourself!" Marco shouted, finding a burst of energy and using it slug Tom right in his left temple! "Your just some self-absorbed douchebag who only cares about himself! So don't you dare talk about my loved ones like that!"
"Are you serious? You still want to fight? You're just going to lose again, Diaz!"
"I won't!"
"You sure about that? I actually prepared this special potion just for today! You're finished!"
Tom dug his hands into his blazer pockets, but the longer it took for him to find it, the quicker his over-confident expression faded...

"N-No way...It's not there?" The redhead mumbled in confusion. "But I swear that I had it before..."
"What? Do you mean this potion?" Marco asked, holding up a small bottle containing a bright blue liquid.
"H-How did you...?"
"Let's not worry about that, besides I'm pretty sure that you've got something bigger to worry about..."
"No way...you aren't going to..."
"Bottom's up!"

The Safe Kid removed the cap from the bottle and downed the liquid in one go, whilst everybody else in the room watched in shock.
Well, everybody apart from Tom.
"You idiot! That was poison! You finished yourself off! What a riot!" The redhead said, shrieking with laughter.
"Marcoooo!" Star screamed, just as the bruenette's vision began to turn black.
"You just made this 10x easier for me, Marco! Thanks! Oh yeah..." Tom said, just as Marco dropped to his knees.
"Sweet dreams, Diaz..."

Everything seemed to be in slow motion as he slowly fell towards the ground...
All he could see was the tear-stained face of the entire Butterfly family...
'Everybody...I'm...so sorry...' he thought, just as his world turned black.
