For new readers: I'm sorry this chapter doesn't make sense compared to other chapters right now. I should have the rest of the chapters edited soon, I promise!

Please, no.

That was the only thought running through my head as I listlessly stared at the sickeningly pale, limp girl in my arms. The tears streaming down my face only fell harder when I watched the light leave her eyes.

I couldn't hold it in any longer. I finally released the inhumane screech that was threatening to escape my lips only a few moments prior.

She was dead.

A Few Years Earlier

"KIRA~!" My head snapped up at the sound of my name.

"Oh, hey, Sa-CAN'T BREATH!" I gasped as my best friend, Sara, gave me one of her signature bone-crushing hugs.

"Sorry, sorry," she smiled sheepishly as I choked for air.

Sara giggled, her chocolate brown eyes sparkling. Her shoulder-length, brown hair bobbed up and down as if jumping along with her excitement.

I found my smile widening at her exuberant personality, "Come on, we have to get to chemistry,"  I told her while pulling her with me to class.

As I took a seat, I began to drift off into thought. I don't particularly like school. Other than it being one of the most dreaded places in Japan, I dislike it for a rather unique reason. Let it be known that most schools in Japan forbid students from unnaturally dying their hair. Now, this shouldn't be a problem for me as I've never dyed my hair before. However, my natural purple locks and tend to give people that impression. My violet tinted eyes surely doesn't aid in my case as well.

As for the reason for my odd discoloration? Well, I don't have one. My mother was born with the same light purple hair and eyes as I. Her doctors were baffled as to why, seeing as this never happened before, but then just chalked it up to a genetic mutation. Schools were hesitant to let me in, but bringing a doctors note (and threatening to sue) really gets the job done. However, it doesn't prevent a few teachers and students from viewing and then treating me differently.

"Kira! Since my class seems so boring to you that you feel like daydreaming throughout it, you can answer the question!"

I sighed as I looked up lazily at my teacher.

"What are the three chemical bonds and which one is the strongest," she smirked at me as if already knowing that I don't have the answer.

"The three types of chemical bonds are Ionic, covalent, and metallic bonds," I answered, wiping the smirk of her lips, "Ionic bonds are the most powerful of the three bonds. I know this because the two atoms transfer valence electrons, which-"

"That's enough, Kameda-san. Please try to pay attention next time, though," she droned in her teacher voice.

Just then, the bell rang, signifying the end of 7th period.

"Homework's on the board!" She yelled as we ran out of the classroom.
