"Mia, calm down babe. Take a deep breath and try to think when you last saw it."
I was having another mini meltdown. Having taken an extra day of annual leave, it was now Thursday and I was finishing my packing before I had to leave for the airport. "I don't know."
"Do you have everything else?"
"Are you positive?"
"Good. I know that hairbrush means a lot to you babe, but we'll buy you a new one okay?"
"Okay." I agreed, as my eyes scanned the bathroom one final time.
"Babe, the taxi should be there soon, do you have everything ready to go."
"Um, yes. Everything's ready."
"Good girl, now sit down and take a deep breath. Better?" He asked after I exhaled loudly.
"A little." I admitted.
"Mia, if you forget anything, we'll replace it okay?"
"Okay." I nodded.
This is the third time this week that we'd had conversations like this. My nerves were shot and any little thing would send me into a meltdown.
"Do you still have your period?"
"Um, yes but I'm almost finished. Probably by tomorrow or maybe Saturday I'll be done."
He was about to speak when I interrupted him to tell him the taxi had arrived.
"Okay babe, call me once you've checked in."
I found my brush. I texted him from the taxi.
Where was it?
In my handbag
Call me from the airport xx
"Hi babe, I'm all checked in and stress free." I smiled when he laughed. "I'm sorry, this week I've been all over the place."
"It's fine Mia, once you get here I know how to calm you down."
"Babe, I can't. Remember?"
"You think that having your period is going to stop me?" He asked as his voice grew deeper.
"No buts Mia." We were both silent for a moment and I heard them announce boarding.
"I need to board now Jay."
"Okay. Try to get some sleep okay? And Mia?"
"Stay calm. I'll see you in a few hours." I hung up smiling.
I'd been such a mess this week that I'd hardly slept, so once the plane took off I put my seat back and slept the whole way.
He was right there as I stepped into arrivals and into his arms. The stress from the last few days instantly leaving me as I was enveloped in his scent. His hand reached up for my breast and I leaned up to kiss him.
"Hi." I whispered against his lips.
"Hi." His thumb grazed over my nipple and I moaned into his mouth. "Better?" He asked with a smirk and I nodded.
"I don't know why this works Jay, but please don't ever stop."
"I don't plan to." His lips met mine again before he grabbed my hand and we went to wait for my bags.
