I try to focus on the conversation between Elijah, Stefan and my father as we walk across the yard to the abandoned witch house. I'm worried about Elena; even though Damon gave her his blood and I knew she'd come back to life, she was still going to be murdered tonight. That wasn't exactly an easy thing to go through.

"The sacrifice is completed in stages as the full moon sets," Elijah was saying. "First the werewolf is killed, then the vampire. Finally, the doppelganger. Once Elena dies, the curse will be broken. Klaus will become hybrid."

"So when do we attack?" Dad asked. I tried not to scowl at him- I wasn't keen on the idea of my dad trying to fight against an all-powerful vampire-werewolf hybrid. After all, he was only human. And if he thought I'd let him go without me, well, he had another thing coming.

"Elena's death will activate his dormant werewolf side. He'll be vulnerable during the transformation. That's when Bonnie comes in."

Stefan frowned, deep in thought. "And you're sure Bonnie will survive this?"

Elijah nodded. "If she can deliver him to the brink of death," he said, "I'll finish the job myself."

Stefan's phone rang and he answered it, walking away from us to get some privacy. The three of us watched as he spoke to whoever was on the other end of the phone call- most likely Damon. Then he looked back at my dad and I with a worried expression on his face. I exchanged a look with my dad and asked Stefan, "What is it? What's wrong?" Stefan hung up the phone and walked back toward us as he placed it in his pocket.

"It's Jenna." He hesitated and looked over at my dad. "Klaus took her. He's going to turn her into a vampire and then use her for the sacrifice."

My dad froze. "No," he whispered, terrified for the woman he loved. I was scared for Jenna too, but I think I was more angry than anything. Who the hell did Klaus think he is, coming to Mystic Falls and ruining everyone's lives like this? Jenna's the most pure-hearted person I know. She's innocent, kind, smart- she didn't deserve to be dragged into all of this. And for him to take her for the sacrifice... why the hell couldn't he have just used Katherine? No one likes her anyway, and plus he wanted to punish her for running out on him. What better way to do that than to use her for the sacrifice she escaped from five hundred years ago?

"Someone's gotta tell Jeremy," Stefan said worriedly.

My dad just stood there, staring blankly, and I sighed and squeezed his shoulder before turning back to Stefan. "I'll do it," I offered.

He looked guilty. "You don't have to, Ava. I can-"

"Stefan," I interrupted him with a shake of my head. "I said I'll do it. It's not a big deal." He took a deep breath and nodded, and we headed into the house. My dad didn't move at first, so I looped my arm in his and guided him up to the door, walking ahead of Elijah and Stefan. I felt so terrible for my dad- he had the worst luck with his relationships. My mom died when I was three, Isobel willingly turned into a vampire and switched off her humanity when she left us, and now, Jenna's going to be used in a sacrifice. I knew he loved her very much, and I had been hoping he'd finally find a life of happiness for her. I was sad and angry that he wouldn't be able to have that now.

I left my dad, Stefan and Elijah in the main room and went down into the basement, where Jeremy and Bonnie were. They were reading through grimoires, but when I entered the room they both paused and looked up at me. "Hey, Ava," Bonnie greeted me.

"What are you doing here?" Jeremy asked.

"Stefan, Elijah and my dad are upstairs." I hesitated and looked over at the witch. "Do you mind if I have a moment with Jeremy?"
