•Chapter 24•

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

Panting and barely clinging to consciousness, I crawled out of the hole. Mia and Link were leaning against the wall, talking.

"Help!" I wheezed. I collapsed in front of them, my energy spent.

"Zelda! Oh my goddesses!" Link yelled.

And then I blacked out.

My eyes opened. I was lying in a bed in a house. It was a one-roomed house. Link, Mia, and an old man in blue robes were playing cards.

"Um...." I cleared my throat.

"Oh hey, Zel." Link said. He got up and walked over to me. He felt my forehead. "How you feeling?"

"Um, where am I?"

"See? What did I tell you?" Mia said. "She never has her priorities straight."

"I'm fine. There's no pain at all."

"That's because we used a hell of a lot of health potion." Link explained. "We used so much that one more would cause you to get your stomach pumped."

"Oh." I sat up. I coughed. "How long have I been out?"

"About a half an hour."

"That's it?"

"Yeah."

"So, where am I?"

"We are in Kakariko's healer's house." He gestured to the old man, who had a white beard and hair like Santa Claus's and wore blue and white robes, complete with a cap.

"Hello and thank you." I said.

The old man smiled and nodded. "It was my pleasure. And, uh, your secret is safe with me."

"My...my secret?" I looked at Link, who avoided my gaze.

"I've just never seen anything like it. I've never even heard of one."

"A Sheikah?" I asked nervously

"No....a....what was the word?"

Mia spoke up as she shuffled the cards. "A Hermaphrodite."

"What?" I stared at Mia.

"Oh don't worry." The healer said. "I won't tell a soul. I just want to do some tests and observations."

"That entail...?"

"Well, your clothes would have to be off for most of them since there is no one with those conditions....." He chuckled nervously.

"I'm going to have to pass."

"But-science! Think of all the progress we could make!"

"Yeah. No thanks. But thank you for healing me and for the sling." I slid my legs out of the bed, ignoring the pounding headache, and walked out the door.

Mia and Link followed after me. I pulled up the cloth around my mouth.

"You left your shoes." Link said, tossing them to me.

"Did I do something?"

"Yeah." Mia said. "That was kind of rude."

"He was asking me to take my clothes off! And Mia, a hermaphrodite? Really?!"

"Okay, wait. What is a-whatever you said?" Link asked.

"A hermaphrodite is something from a Greek myth." I explained. "It was, um, half male, half female."
