[Justin’s POV]

I open my eyes to like the shiniest light ever that I squint. Then after adjusting my sight, I look around and the first one I see is my Mom.

She sighs in relief and says, “finally, sweetheart. I’m so glad you’re awake,” then kisses me on my forehead.

“Where am I, Mom?” I ask as I scan the room around me. “Where’s Ellie? Is she okay?”

“You’re in an emergency room of the corp.” She answers as she’s opening the curtains on the window and lets the sunlight suddenly fills the whole room. “Ellie’s fine. She’s now having a check routine in the lab.”

I rest my head against the pillow and sighs in relief. I’m really glad she’s okay, really.

Wait! Emergency room, she said? I sit up and try to feel my pain but I don’t feel any sickness at all. Mom once explained that emergency rooms are only for patients who have very serious injuries. Why am I here? Or is this because Mom is just too protective to me?

“Why am I in an emergency room?”

“Really? The doctor said you didn’t suffer from memory loss.” She pauses searching for something in her bag and turns to me, confused.

“I’m just wondering if my condition was really bad that I’m here.”

“You’d been shot, Justin, in your right shoulder.” She answers, walking towards me. “Injured in your both arms, thighs, stomach, both ankles, and bruises on your face, and you’re still wondering why you’re in a hospital?”

I look down and sighs. “Yeah, now I remember it all.”

“There’s nothing to be sad about, sweetheart.” She says, stroking my hair down.

“They finished me down, Mom. I even passed out. It’s not that I regret it all but I just think I’m still a loser from a high school. The worst is, Ellie who brought me here. How embarrassing!” I wipe my face down with my hand in depression.

“Only my crews and I who saw it all and knew the truth, Justin. You never know how proud I am of you.I’m really amazed how you take this job as your own responsibility even though it’d risk your life.” She looks into my eyes deeply. “Do you know that Ellie had been crying all night, waiting for you here that she fell asleep? She said she could’ve been dead if you didn’t help her last night.”

“I didn’t even realize it.” I look down again, then look away. “You’re not saying that so I could feel better, are you?”

Mom frowns weirdly at me. “Why would I?”

Then suddenly I just felt something isn’t normal. “Hey, why am I not feeling any pain anymore by the way?”

“When paramedic knew you’re a celebrity, they doubled everything up. Your operation, immune system, and other stuff I don’t really understand. It was necessary to cover everything up that happened last night. The citizens who live in the apartment who saw all of the incident even have made a promise not to blabber about it to media.”
