"Concentrate Chloe!", Cole said for the tenth time today. In that pace, we wouldn't be out of here in a week. It'd already been three days since I left, giving Brian four more before... Concentrate Chloe!
"I can't do this!", I shouted defeated as I fell back to the bed.
"You can and you will, now get up."
"I don't remember you being so bossy..."
"And I don't remember you being a quitter."
"I was four!", I protested.
"But you were so stubborn..."
"Hey!", I said as I turned to him, seeing him chuckle.
"Come on, just try and focus. Your powers are tied to your emotions, you know how to trigger them."
We've spent the last three days with me trying to do something right and not accomplishing quite that.
"Brian has about four more days to go... You know, before his human side is too weak and his wolf takes his place. You might lose him forever..."
All the windows around me started breaking, ending with the glass that was in front of me. I wasn't going for the windows.
"I'm sorry", he said, "but you're powerful and this is what happens when you use your powers."
I knew he wasn't telling me these things to hurt me, he wanted me to use my pain, anger, my emotions, in order to control what I was able to do. I couldn't imagine how hard it was for him, since his mate had already lost control to her wolf. How would he bring her back?
The guy who brought me here, which I later found out his name is John, wanted Cole to help me control my powers so he could use us both for whatever they wanted us to do. From what Cole said to me, this pack was kind of crazy. Their Alpha died a couple of years ago and the beta took his place. They're a pack hungry for power and now that they got two telepaths, they wouldn't hold back, they would use us to take down other packs.
As long as they were keeping Rebecca a prisoner and away from Cole, we couldn't leave and he had to do as he was told, he didn't want to lose her.
"So if we release Rebecca and then slip out during the night?", I said.
"There are werewolves guarding her..."
"What if there weren't guards?"
"But there are."
"But we can disarm them", I smiled at him.
"You can barely break a glass, how are you going to disarm the guards?"
"If you keep reminding me about what is going on, I'm pretty sure I'll get there..."
"You know I'm not doing it to hurt you."
"I know, but I don't want it to get to that...", I sighed. "Why didn't you try leaving with Rebecca earlier?"
"They knew how to render me useless if I ever decided to leave..."
"But you did leave for three years."
"That was different. I left because I was getting out of control. I started not being able to control it and it was taking a toll on me. I left to come to peace with it, learn how to control it without being afraid. I didn't want to leave her, but she insisted I should go. She knew I had to go. They just made sure I'd come back, by locking her up. They won't let her go...", he whispered the last part. She means so much to him, they're mates. If I already felt a pull towards Brian, imagine how Cole felt.
We have to get out of here.
"Good morning", Alexa whispered from besides me as we were lying on the bed.
"Good morning", I smiled at her.
"What time did you come back last night?", she asked as she moved closer to me and I wrapped my arm around her.
"3 a.m.... I don't know what else to do Alexa...", I sighed.
"You're doing everything you can", she looked up to me, "Brian knows that, or else you would be fighting right now. All we can do is wait and he understands that."
I looked at her. She always knows what to say to make things better, I've always admired that about her.
"I love you", I said.
"I love you too", she smiled and kissed me.
We were having breakfast, when someone knocked on the door and got in before either of us could say anything.
"Morning", Alex and Jeremy came inside.
"Hello", Alexa grinned at them.
"Intrusive as always", I muttered making sure they heard me.
"We have a problem", Jeremy said.
"More problems?", I said.
"More of an extension of the original one", Alex said, "something's off about Brian."
"Besides the fact that he's desperate to get his mate back?", I said. It'd been four days since Chloe was gone and we still hadn't heard anything from Silver Blood. How long do they take to solve their problems? Because we have some of them too!
"It's not just that, he seems... weaker", Jeremy said.
"That fast?", Alexa said surprised and he nodded.
She's right, that was fast. Mates need to be with each other, but she's only be gone for four days and they've only known each other for two, it shouldn't be happening that fast.
"That's not the weird part", Alex said, "Daniel's ok."
"Didn't you just say he's weaker?", I asked.
"Brian is weaker. Daniel is perfectly fine."
"He's not the one who needs her...", I said as I slowly started realizing what is going on. Chloe's not a werewolf, Daniel accepts her as his mate, but is not affected, not even wolfsbane affected him. Daniel is not the one who needs Chloe to survive, Brian is.
"He's going to take control", I said urgently, "if his human side is too weak, Dan will take over. Who knows how we'll bring him back."
"There is a way to stop this, but he wouldn't do it. None of us would", Jeremy said.
"Reject her?", Alexa said.
"He'd prefer to lose control...", Alex said.
"Then we need to find her before that and Silver Blood is our best lead."
"I don't trust them...", Alex said, "They tried to kill him."
"They knew it wasn't lethal."
"They were pretty sure it wasn't lethal, there's a difference."
"They're our only shot."
"But they have their own problems."
"Then they should solve them fast because I don't know how much time he's got left", Alex said.
Lets just hope it won't get to that.
I had no idea what to write, but now I'm back on track and have a lot of ideas :D
