"I hate cars." She huffed, crossing her arms. "Why can't we walk?" Stefan nearly choked at the idea, looking back at her. "What?"
"Aurora." He said, shaking his head. "The distance between Florida and Memphis would make your delicate feet bleed." She shot him a look, not believing him. "Especially in the heels you've been buying." She shot a harsher glare his way, though it quickly dissolved into .
"Can you two not argue?" Klaus said as he drove a little faster. He wasn't necessarily fed up with them as he was just hoping the two would quiet down. His words, as they often were, were ignored.
"Well, Stefan. I'm not sure if you've seen my legs since I bought heels. They look fabulous." She laid back on the back seats, propping her feet up on the door handle.
"I'm sure." Stefan said, rolling his eyes slightly. He wasn't interested in her shoes, she just was fun to talk too.
"Klaus?" Aurora bit her lip as she watched him from the side. "What's that?" She pointed at a factory-like building. Smoke was spiralling out of it and by the time he glanced at her she was sitting straight up, looking out the window.
"It's a factory, love." He glanced back at her, noticing how fast she had moved to look out the window. She wasn't sure what that was. "It makes things. Machines and people work there."
"Intriguing." She said quietly, eyes following it as they drove faster. She turned, looking at him again. "Hey another question! For either of you really." The two boys exchanged a look before nodding. "Why are cars so slow?" Stefan laughed and Klaus forced a smile.
"They aren't. We must follow laws." Her eyebrows furrowed in much more confusion and Klaus sighed. "Okay well, we can't go fast because the police will arrest us."
"Arrest?" She asked in confusion, still thoroughly confused.
"Take and hold. Usually in a prison. It's a restricted area with other criminals." She nodded a little. "Understand?"
"Yeah! But I was just thinking... why don't you just compel people and break the law?" She said, actually confused.
"Too much work." Stefan answered. "Plus some people are on vervain which prevents our compulsion." He answered, looking straight forward.
"Oh." She frowned a little. "Can I have vervain?" Klaus didn't speak, rather turning to give her a bewildered look.
"You trust me don't you?" She nodded. "Why would I compel you?" Her eyes widened, not seeing it that way.
"No! I meant other people! Like what if your enemies compelled me to forget you? Or they like hurt me or something." He slowly nodded. He looked forward as the light changed.
"They won't." He muttered. "But we can buy it anyways next time we stop." Her eyes widened and she laughed a little, leaning forward so she could kiss him on the cheek. She was glad he didn't truly think that she was not trusting him. She trusted him with her whole heart, in fact Klaus felt like that could be their downfall. He glanced back at her, nervously.
He didn't have the heart to tell her the truth. Why he had put his siblings in coffins. He bit his lip, looking straight ahead. They were going to stop soon, though they weren't quite in Memphis yet. He chewed his lips nervously, looking around.
"Stefan, look up nearby motels. We'll stop for the night." He spoke, looking over and spotting her interested look.
"There's one down the road." Klaus nodded at his words. What had felt like forever had actually only been four hours and they had two more to go. Maybe it was just the fact he had lived forever but he felt as though time was going faster with her at his side.
"And, um, Aurora?" She looked over with furrowed eyebrows. "We're gonna have to talk once we get there.
.
"What were we going to speak about?" She asked, watching Stefan exit after putting their bags in their room. Klaus seemed to be thinking and she reached out to touch his arm.
"I don't want you to get angry." He started, motioning for her to sit. She slowly did, looking lost. "I need to get this off my chest. I know you'll hate me for it but I'm sure you'll appreciate this."
"What is it?" She asked, confused. "I'm not gonna get angry Klaus." She would promise but at the same time she felt uneasy.
"They're not just safe somewhere." He had nearly no expression. "I told you about how only special daggers can kill Original's. I... used those daggers to put them out of it." Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "They're not alive right now, they're desiccated." He said, avoiding all eye contact.
"What's that?" She said quietly.
"Their blood has dried up. They'll be fine when the daggers are removed though." He quietly explained, her eyes widening. She slowly stood up, looking away.
"I... don't know how to feel." She said. "How am I supposed to feel?" She turned, eyes watering. He didn't make eye contact. "How am I supposed to feel, Klaus?" She yelled the question at him, eyes watering even more before tears rolled down her face.
"Like this." He said, lips pursing outwards. "Come here." He said, opening his arms. She didn't seem incredibly comfortable, closing her eyes.
"Stefan and I talked once about relationships. About how his worked because it was made on trust." She looked up nervously. "I love you. A lot. But I really wanted to know what happened to my best friends and you never told me." She said, breathing quickly. "Tell me more. Why?" He looked conflicted, eyebrows pushed together as he stepped closer and pulled her into his arms again.
"I'm sorry." He said, shocking himself. Was he really? Probably not. After all, he didn't think he would do this any different. He had thought it all through so it was interesting for him to see her reaction. "A lot of things I want to say are just confusing."
The two looked like a mess, sitting on a motel bed with his arms encasing her in warmth. She felt sick, her best friends were gone and 'desiccated' because of the one person she was in love with. She let a soft cry out, head burying into his shoulder in anguish. How could she deal without Bekah at her side?
