Mia quickly knelt next to Ash gently shaking and muttering words incoherent to Cleo. Ash's eyes fluttered and opened slowly, muttering and groaning in pain and stiffness.
"Hey are you ok Ash?" asked Mia softly.
"Mmmmhmmmm." grunted Ash in reply. Mia helped Ash sit up slowly. Cleo made her way across the room, and crouched down beside Mia.
"Where's Jordan and Josh?" asked Mia quietly, still supporting Ash. Ash, rubbing his forehead with the heel of his palm, said
"I don't know. I actually think it was Josh who knocked me out. He must have come from behind me, because I don't know what happened."
"Cheeky son of a bitch!" mused Cleo. Ash started to get up, but then started to fall back down. Mia quickly rushed to help him, then faltered under Ash's weight.
"A little help please Cleo." asked Mia. Cleo helped support Ash. Ash had one arm around each girl's shoulder and chuckled to himself.
"What's so funny?" asked Cleo. "You know on TV, how the guy celebrities have a girl under each arm and do a really cocky 'I'm better than you' smile? I feel like that right now." Ash said, chuckling to himself still.
"Even when your still groggy from unconsciousness, you are still making jokes." Mia said, in a mock vindictive voice. Mia smiled to herself. Cleo and Ash started laughing really loudly. Mia couldn't help keeping a straight face any longer and joined in.
Once Ash was no longer groggy from unconsciousness, they decided to figure out what was going on.
"Why would Josh do something like this? I thought you and him were good buddies?" asked Cleo.
"So did I." replied Ash. "But what would he want with Jordan?" said Cleo to no one in particular. Ash's eyes then turned to Mia, who looked downcast and refusing to meet his concerned, brown eyes. Mia looked up at last. She sighed and said, " You know how our gang is called Death's Children? Yeah well, Jordan and I actually are."
"As in, Death's actual children?" Cleo asked, exasperated.
"Wow. Why didn't you tell us earlier?" asked Ash.
"Because some people would want to force us to do something bad. Really bad." Mia answered.
"Like what?" asked Cleo.
"Sorry, but even though your my best friend, I still can't tell you. Some questions are best left unanswered."
