Chapter 28 (Bitter Faith)

Start from the beginning

"Who the hell are you and what the fuck do you want?" he seethed, thinking that he'd be damned if he allowed a stranger to waltz in his house without a tinge of respect for him or his household.

"Well well, a bit violent don't you think?" she cocked a brow in challenge. "Is that what you did to Kaylyn for her to end up in the hospital Mayhew?" she hissed. "I swear to God if I find out that you touched a hair in her head, you'll pay- and it won't be money," she warned threateningly.

Matthew scoffed, not allowing his brain to believe the words that flew from her mouth. Anger aroused itself within him in the ugliest manner, his nose flaring.

Tightening his hold on her arm, he spoke between tightly clenched teeth. "Get out." The words were slow, bitter and deadly, but the woman did not cower before him. She held her head high and sized him up.

"Not until I see Kaylyn," she bit out firmly and even though his hold on her began to hurt she ignored it as she stared into the soulless eyes of Matthew Mayhew.

She couldn't ignore the pang of fear that consumed her as she saw the murderous look on the man's face but she knew she couldn't fall prey to the aristocrat.

Matthew was trying to hold onto his anger in the best way he could, but the more he stared at the woman and replayed the words she had thrown at him, the more he found that task hard to do. He was already in turmoil with the fact that Kaylyn and his child was at a high risk, but to have someone so blatantly accuse him of it was simply unacceptable. What kind of man would he be if he dared to harm the mother of his child, and his child? The woman had f*cking passed her limits, but Matthew knew just how to put her in reverse.

He moved and reopened the door, the woman still in the grasp of his hands. She stumbled as she tried to keep up with the fast pace in which he was moving. Matthew gently shoved her on the outside, but the woman was still unbalanced from the stumble so she fell to the ground.

She gasped as her butt made contact with the hard concrete, her mouth slightly opened with the shock of her fall. Matthew muttered a small curse, not having wanted to make her fall, but seeing her there, made him slightly contented.

"Faith?!" Kaylyn's startled voice came, and Matthew's eyes slightly widened with the knowledge. She was Faith?

He turned around and found Kaylyn moving towards them in quick strides, hurt and fear evident on her face. Matthew inwardly cursed himself, seeing that he might have just put Kaylyn through another round of stress - which was the last thing she needed.

"What happened here?!" Kaylyn shrieked, looking at Matthew for answers.

He raked a hand through his hair in frustration. He wanted to take Kaylyn to her bedroom and have her rest her pretty little head on the pillows and sleep, having no knowledge of what happened. He didn't want her to argue or stress, he just wanted her to drink soup and sleep- but Matthew knew that wasn't going to happen now.

"Look, I'm sorry. I shouldn-" he tried to apologize to Faith in order to lighten the mood but he was interrupted by Kaylyn.

"Matthew did you push her?" she asked with wide eyes.

"I-" he once again tried to defend himself, but once again interrupted.

"He did!" Faith cut in sharply, looking at Matthew with a hateful glare. She then turned her arm to Kaylyn, showing her the deep red marks. "And this." Her eyes didn't leave him as she spoke.

Kaylyn gasped, darting her eyes at him. The look she gave him was one of utter disappointment and hurt.

Matthew's hate for Faith grew by a tad.

Kaylyn stared at the marks encircling her friend's arm. They were already turning a shade of blue, and she felt disgusted by the knowledge of Matthew inflicting such harm to her friend. She saw the look on his face when she had just ventured down the stairs. He looked murderous at the time, but what was his reason for manhandling Faith? Kaylyn thought to herself.

She had only planned on having her friend over so they could chat because Kaylyn knew she would feel better, but this? It was unexpected as well as disappointing.

Throwing Matthew a steely glare, she said. "What the hell were you thinking?"

Matthew sighed. "I was thinking that I was showing a stranger out of my house," he defended.

"She's my friend!" Kaylyn cried out in hysteria.

"Kay-" Matthew was trying to calm her because he knew all this was not healthy for her.

"Bruising and shoving her? Have you gone mad?!" she hissed, looking at him in disgust.

"I didn't -" he tried to defend again.

"You are unbelievable!" Kaylyn exclaimed, once again cutting him off.

"Can you listen to me for a second please!" he snapped in frustration. "I didn't know she was your friend. She came into my house without acknowledging me or herself, now what the hell was I to do when I had no prior knowledge of her?" Matthew hissed, his jaw hardening.

"I told you I was here to see Kaylyn, common sense could have told you I was her friend," Faith interjected ruefully.

Matthew cast a nasty glare in her direction.

"Kaylyn he clearly doesn't know how to treat people- women especially," Faith cursed.

"Shut the hell up woman!" Matthew roared angrily, his hands twitching with the need to throw the woman from his house.

      "Matthew stop!" Kaylyn hissed.

"You're telling me to stop?" he cocked a questioning brow. "Maybe you should take a look at the friends you keep Kaylyn. This woman here started this, and she doesn't have any consideration for your health as well as the baby's. This is not what you need right now after what happened earlier!" Matthew exclaimed, with fiercely narrowed dark eyes.

For a moment everyone was quiet.

"I want her out of my house...now" he demanded tersely.

Faith gasped, gawking at Matthew.

"Matthew, I asked her here," Kaylyn croaked.

Matthew was determined to have the woman out, and not even the pleas of Kaylyn could change his mind.

"And now I want her out," he spoke between tightly clenched teeth.

Kaylyn's eyes blurred with tears as she stared at him. "Then I'm going home," she exclaimed shakily and Matthew stilled, swallowing hard. That was far from what he wanted, but he felt like he was the only one trying when it came to their situation.

"Who's stopping you?" he asked blankly, his face now expressionless. He regretted the words as soon as he saw the look on kaylyn's face.
