"Did you enjoy your pancakes baby girl?"
"They were delicious! This was my first time trying chocolate chip pancakes but it won't be my last."
"Hmm... There's been a lot of firsts for you this vacation eh?" He smiled.
Even though we were both eating we did not get up because we were enjoying each other's company. I was just admiring the beach and I could feel Alexander playing with my hair.
"I love that."
"You love what princess?"
"When you play with my hair" I said as I leaned in closer to him.
"Well I should do that more often shouldn't I?"
I nodded as I smiled. "You know what else I love?"
"Tell me" he said eagerly.
"This side of you."
"What do you mean?"
"Yeah you know, you look so happy and carefree. You're laughing all the times and making jokes and just... It's like a heavy load is off of your shoulders."
He looked at me thoughtfully and gave me a crooked smile, "well, I have no worries right now. It's just you and me, nothing else."
"I know, your job really takes a toll on you."
"Yeah but there's nothing I can do about that one, I needed to take care of my father's business."
"Why is it just you? I mean William is older than you... How come you're the one managing everything?"
"I'm not babe. William manages Dad's other company but that one is in London. That is why he is usually not home. When Dad passed away, he decided he wanted to live in a new place so he took over that one."
"Is the company in the same industry as you? Or what does he do?"
"That company is in the fashion industry. My company is in charge of creating new technology that can make farming more efficient even in areas with limited water supplies. William manages The Kingston which is basically a clothing line. He usually works from the headquarters but there are several stores now around Europe."
"How come Annabel doesn't manage anything?"
"Uhm... She does. I'm surprised you two haven't discussed it before. Annabel manages a a hotel line in Los Angeles. Well Mom and Annabel both do that since there are multiple hotels and it can be a bit much for just one of them."
"If your family has so many properties why do you all still work?"
I felt like I was asking way too many questions but I had to take advantage of his good mood. He was sharing a lot with me that he would not normally share.
"We didn't work before, when dad was with us. He would manage everything and we could still leave the business in the hands of people we employ to manage them but we don't because we need something to focus on other than the fact that Dad isn't here anymore. When he passed away, I was still finishing college, Annabel was working on her master's. William was the only one that was already working with Dad."
