Chapter 6 – Answers
"Why didn't you have me help you? You should've known they would be too much for you to handle on your own."
"And you should've known they would attack on your birthday. Why'd you go and get drunk?" He winced as Scott tightened the bandage on his shoulder.
"It’s not like that was my intention." He glanced in her direction and something in the glance told her it meant more than just a simple glance.
"Yeah, we all know exactly what your intentions were." Julian chuckled and patted Ashley on the shoulder as he moved away from Scott.
Ashley didn't know what the intentions were, but she didn't want to start another game of questions.
She heard the fridge open and Julian groaned. "How do you live without food?"
She chuckled and pushed off the couch. "I have only been here for a few days and I usually get food at work."
"Where do you work?" Scott was only a few feet behind her and she fought the urge to keep walking forward.
"Don't tell me that's a question I have to answer."
Julian smirked at her. "You've started it, but how about we take a seat on the couch. I don't like to complain, but my leg sure could use some rest."
He moved past her, slightly moving her backwards.
As she lost her balance arms caught her and the shocks running across her skin told her exactly who it was. It also told her that Julian was up to something.
She quickly righted herself and moved back to the main room. "Julian, you better stop doing whatever you're trying to do. It won't work."
He just smiled as she walked over to the bed, leaving the couch for the two boys.
Scott took a bit longer to join them, but by the time he was sitting down he had a smirk in place. "How do we want to start this?"
Before she could say they could just go in a circle Julian spoke up. "How about we just play it sort of like truth or dare? Let’s say Scott goes first. Whoever he asks has to answer the question, and then they get to ask a question. And so on and so forth."
Julian agreed and Ashley shrugged. It did sound like a better idea than hers.
"But who gets to start?"
They all looked at each other and Ashley's heart sunk as Julian's smile widened.
"How about Ashley goes first?"
"Me? Why me?"
Julian smirked and leaned back in the couch. "That way we know how deep the questions can be. If you ask about one of our deepest secrets, we have free rein to ask anything about you."
She could ask about the gold door and why it might kill her, but that would basically be placing her life on a silver platter and the boys could pick anything off it. "I just have one problem. You two already know everything about each other. How is it fair when I only get one answer from you guys and you both get two from me?"
It looked like Scott was going to argue, but Julian waved his hand and smiled. "Don't worry about that. We'll do our best to keep it fairly even."
She nodded, accepting it. She knew Julian really would keep it as even as he could. Scott on the other hand, he looked as if he only wanted answers from her. Of course, that made sense. He probably knew everything about Julian.
"Okay, how about I start semi-simple." She turned to Scott. "I already know the outer details of Julian living here, but why didn't you tell your dad where he was? He was obviously worried and even made himself sick looking for him."
