Chapter 5 – Her apartment
"The music is freaking loud. I can hear it clear out here even with the doors still shut."
Julian laughed. "That's the point."
He climbed out of his car looking extremely excited.
"What are you so excited about?" He just chuckled as she got out and winced as the noise increased tenfold.
"How do you people even hear after going to one of these parties?"
"What?" He yelled as he moved closer.
She repeated her question, though this time she yelled.
He laughed and grabbed her arm.
Before she could move away he pulled her into the house.
Surprisingly, the music was quieter than it had been outside.
"What's the point in having the music so loud outside?" She was still kind of yelling, but it wasn't near as bad.
"It’s to let everyone know where the party is."
She thought everyone already knew. "What about the neighbors? Doesn't the music bother them?"
He chuckled and shook his head as if that was the craziest thing he had ever heard. "My-" He stopped and he looked almost afraid before he shook his head and forced a smile. "Scott's dad owns everyone within a hundred miles. I don't think they are even at home tonight. If they are, I doubt they are thinking about how loud the music from this house."
Ashley almost asked him what he was going to say, but knew now wasn't the time
"Well, let’s go find birthday boy and make sure he hasn't gotten into the drinks. He's annoying when he's sober. I don't even want to see him when he's drunk."
Julian smiled, slung an arm over her shoulder, and pulled her through the crowd. She didn't know how he knew his way around the house so well, but she wasn't going to question it. If she had gone there on her own she would've gotten lost within the first ten seconds.
"Hey Scott! There's someone here to see you."
She tried looking over heads to see if she could find him, but she just wasn't tall enough.
"I don't want to see them." He came stumbling out of the crowd. "I only-" His eyes landed on them and he glared at Julian. "You said no man. You said no."
Julian removed his arm and raised his hands defensively. "It’s cool Scott. I didn't mean anything by it."
Ashley looked between them, feeling extremely confused. What were they talking about?
"Ashley, come... here." Scott waved sluggishly as he leaned against the nearest wall.
"I think I'm okay where I am."
His face contorted to a look of anger. "You choose him..." He burped and shook his head. "Over me?" There was hurt in his voice and she didn't understand exactly what he meant.
"No Scott, I'm not choosing anyone over anyone else." He looked hopeful. "I just came here with the deal that if I was here either you or Julian would stay with me to keep all the drunken guys away. I'm sorry, but you now fall into that group. I don't know what you were thinking when you decided to get wasted, but I don't want you to do anything you'd regret tomorrow because you're drunk."
He frowned and seemed to try and take in what she said. "I don't think I'd regret ki-"
"Scott, do you remember what I told you?"
