SABTI POV
It's been eight months since I've had my girls and let me tell you, they are a beautiful handful. Taillow is kinda tomboyish in a way and Kakuna is a crybaby. DeVante and I are no longer together and are in the process of divorcing. I didn't file for divorce because I want to be with Chris. I just want some serenity and peace from all of this madness I created. I've actually moved to Honduras to be closer to my mother and other siblings. Ocelean and Tenese have been either writing or calling me relentlessly to get me to come back to the States and let them see their goddaughters. Being a single mother to one child is hard, but TWO? Mannnn.....it's hard. Tory is NOT the father of either of my kids. Chris came to the hospital when the babies were born and you guessed it, he acted a plum fucking fool fighting the staff and DeVante. I have flown with my babies back to America to do a DNA test that Chris' and his lawyers' have subpoenaed me for.
I'm staying with Ocelean and Tenese in our old starter apartment and his mother came and got the girls.
24 HOURS LATER....
Tenese, Ocelean, and I had walked into a mediation office where we were all gonna find out the DNA results. I know Chris' is the father, but....I don't know. He took a DNA test for the other three children, but he was proven not to be the father of any of them. Woah!
Dr. Maloo: In the case of eight-month-old Taillow, Chris....you are the father!
Chris: Yeah! That's my baby!
Ocelean: So see her more, bit---
Tenese pinched her to shut up. I sighed and listened for the next result.
Dr. Maloo: In the case of eight-month-old Kakuna, Chris....you are the father!
I held my head in my hands and cried. I wanted Chris at one point in my life, but now that I see how unstable he is, I can't really trust him to be alone with my babies. My lawyer Amal rubbed my back, comforting me and drew our attention to the child support and custody case.
Amal Clooney: My client originally had two motions: the first one would have demanded for Mr. Brown to sign over his parental rights to my client's husband Donald DeGrate Jr. However, she has withdrawn that motion. The second motion is for Mr. Brown to have supervised visitations with the children three weeks per month with him getting the girls on alternating holidays. We also ask that he pay $5,000 per child on the 1st and 15th of each month.
Chris: Their mother lives in Honduras, that's halfway around the world!
Me: If you can fly your private jet to the Cannes festival, then you can definitely fly over to see us.
Chris: Move closer so I can access them better is all I'm asking!
Me: I'm not about to kiss your ass. You can't manipulate me any more than you already have!
Chris: Because I'm asking you to move!?
Mark Geragos: Enough! Let's also motion to change the children's last names.
Me: No.
Chris: Your husband ain't their daddy! I am!
Me: He's been in their lives since day one!
Chris: You denied me the right!
Me, Tenese, and Ocelean: YOU DENIED YOURSELF THE RIGHT, NIGGA!
Chris: I ain't ask ya chickenhead ass homegirls shit, Sabti!
The mediator banged her gavel. She was tired of this shit just like I was.
Mediator: Look, I've heard enough! Mr. Brown will be able to see his children three weeks per month with $5,000 in child support (per child) to be paid on the 1st and 15th of each month in addition to seeing the children supervised on their birthdays and alternate holidays. Mrs. Zuniga-DeGrate will not have to leave her native Honduras unless it is of her own volition. We are adjourned.
I got up and ran my hands through my hair. Chris came up to me.
Me: Look, let's just raise the babies!
Chris: That's all I want.
Me: Fine. I'll be in the states for about two more months, Chris.
Chris: Fine.
A FEW WEEKS LATER.....
I was in the living room bouncing the girls in their walkers when I heard light knocking on the door. I opened the door and saw Chris standing there with bags in his hands. Like the lady I am, I reached over and helped him with them.
Me: What's all this?
Chris: A few things for our babies, you know.
Me: What did I say about all this fancy schmancy stuff!?
Chris: Look, I want them to have the best....so that's that.
Me: Alright alright.
He walked over and saw the babies. Tears welled in his eyes as they looked at their father. I took some tissue and wiped his eyes. I sat in the chair and watched them. Chris looked up at me, still emotional.
Me: I-I don't know what to say.
I was about to speak again when I noticed the girls had fallen asleep. I took Taillow and Chris took Kakuna into the nursery, setting them in their cribs. He closed the door tightly and looked at me.
Chris: I don't know much about much, but what I do know is that I love you and our girls. I wish things were different, but...
Me: I do too.
He was about to lean in and kiss me until....
