Heather sighed at her curly hair. Amy had it so easy, she thought. At least she could style her hair. Heather walked out of her and Amy's messy bedroom, into the hall, where other children stood outside. Heather quietly shut the door, and expected to see her best friend next to the door. She wasn't there.
Heather blinked in surprise. Usually, Amy was right there, waiting for Heather to be finished. She turned toward her friend Pele. "Hey Pele, have you seen Amy?" She asked her. Pele flicked one of her black locks out of her face. "I don't know Heather, she seemed a little off today at breakfast."
She's right, Heather thought. Amy was looking at the teachers strangely, as if they would start shooting at the kids any minute.
"Ms. Barnes, would you please explain why Ms. O'Brien is not here with you?" One of the hall monitors, Mr. Fally asked.

"I don't know sir, she wasn't here when I came back from breakfast. Can I look for her?" she asked. Mr. Fally smiled sadly. "I am sorry my dear. I am not allowed to release any student before I check the attendance." He said while marking her absence on a roll sheet. "So, we're just gonna STAND here?" asked another boy named Bailey Wilson.

Heather absolutely hated him. He was the son of the orphanage's owner, Father Wilson, and he is always bragging how his family is so rich, and how he is going to inherit a large technology company after he graduates school.

Basically, his job is to make the actual orphans' life a living hell.

"No, Mr. Wilson, I will just report the absence of Ms. O'Brein, and then we can go back to our normal activities." He said. Heather sighed. She is probably just hiding in the bathroom, or whatever, she thought to herself.

Heather didn't realize how wrong she was.

When nighttime came, Amy still wasn't there.
