Day 15, Fifth Month of Bruma

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Things haven't gotten any easier. I want to say that things did go worse. For one, Serena has not given up on me and truthfully, I have given in a few times. Now, she thinks that I really do want to be with her and my actions show her that. I hate myself for being so weak to her sinful charms. Secondly, apparently I am engaged to Adeliza. I like her. She's a nice chick for helping me out and everything, but I don't want to marry her. I have someone else in mind for myself, but no one is going to allow it to happen.

Elspeth is off-limits.

"Roman?"

I turned around to see Mother walking towards me. She decided to stay awhile after the ball to see how things between Adeliza and I settle in. She didn't like the news about our "engagement", but she knows what the real plans are.

She hugged me and let go. She held on tight to my hands. "It's time for me to go back, but your father will have to stay here a bit longer. I want you to come back with me, but I know you have your own business to take care of. Just be careful and trust no one." She gave me a kiss on the cheek and walked away.

I love you, too, Mom.

I turned to walk away when I caught sight of someone who ran around the corner. I ran to that corridor to see Elspeth running down the hall and I followed. I laughed as I did because I saw how much she struggled with the huge dress she was carrying. I caught up to her and grabbed her arm. I turned her around and my words didn't reach my throat.

Her hair was caught around her face, breathless and all. In her white sheer gown, she made me even more breathless. I didn't dare to look down, but I knew her cleavage was out and about. This wasn't something she would wear. Something was off. And her hair ... there was something different about it, too.

"What's wrong?" I asked her.

She looked around and then replied, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to overhear, but I heard she was leaving and I wanted to say goodbye. I really didn't mean to."

"What are you afraid of?"

She gulped. "You." She let go of me and ran away. She didn't look back.

I heard footsteps behind me and I turned quick to see Adeliza looking at me, curiously. I sighed. "You saw?"

She nodded, but didn't say anything. Every single time we saw each other, she would always look so beautiful. Today, she wore a simple dress just like every other day. She wanted to look normal.

"Did you notice her dress? She looked different than usual."

"It's not her. She's only listening to orders. The guy who is courting her likes girls like that."

"Like what?" I was getting angry. Elspeth was perfect the way she was. She had no reason to change how she looked for someone to like her. She had no reason to be someone she's not so that she can comply to men.

"Don't worry about it. You will get your girl at the end."

"That's the least of my worries, Adele. I want to help end this misery."

"I know and I think we're making great progress with your kinesis. It's amazing how far we've come from the beginning."

"By far you mean little? I don't think this is working. I am telling you that my powers don't like me. Just forget it."
