Chapter Eleven
Jewel had contradictory emotions as of the moment.
First of all, she was happy to know that her grandfather wasn't the one who planned her mother's accident. In addition, she was glad to know that they didn't doubt her claim as their granddaughter.
Anzhela welcomed her with open arms and told her to live with them. She would have accepted their proposal but she knew she wasn't ready yet to reach out to Maxim.
She took a deep breath and thought about her relationship with her grandfather. It wasn't obscure that she held a grudge towards him. Also, no one can deny that she did try to hurt him because of her vendetta.
In conclusion, it might have burned the bridge between the two of them. But fortunately, she was well aware how Anzhela was trying to rebuilt it. As a matter of fact, she bad offered her a room in their vast mansion.
Sadly, she declined the offer. Yes, she wanted to bond with the both of them. But it just didn't felt right.
After all, Gavriil lived there with them. Well, technically he had his own house. But seeing her cousin there would only bring sadness in his eyes.
"Are you well, moy angel? You've been sighing for quite sometime. Is something bothering you?" Alexei leaned closer and touched her forehead.
She wanted to swoon. True to his words, he never left her side. Despite his busy schedule, he always had time for her. In the midst of her ambivalence, her blossoming love for him was cherished.
She shook her head. "I am fine. You worry too much, Alexei."
He flashed a mischievous grin. "Are implying that I am a worry-wart?"
Jewel fought hard not to roll her eyes. "No, but I do appreciate your concern."
"Ah." He hummed softly and slid beside her in the small couch. He looked at her longingly with tenderness.
She raised a brow and laughed. "What is it?"
"Is it only my concern that you appreciate?"
She shook her head. "Of course not. I appreciate everything you do." It was awkward how he kept staring at her. "What now?"
He pressed closer and looked straight in her eyes. "Then show me."
She looked at him incredulously. "Show what?"
"Show me how much you appreciate me." He chided and grinned playfully.
Jewel wanted to scream in frustration at how adorable he was at the moment. She never thought that Alexei would have this childish side. He always seemed to be in control with his actions and emotions. For once, she wanted to placate his whims.
She instructed him to close his eyes. "No peaking." She scooted into his lap and sat comfortably. "Lean back." He obediently followed her orders.
She kissed his forehead. "Thank you for protecting me."
When Alexei opened his mouth to complain, she pressed a finger in his lips. She smiled widely and then ordered for him to close his eyes.
"Thank you for never doubting me." She kissed his eyelids followed by his nose. "Thank you for always being there." She continued her path to his cheeks.
