After a few weeks of rest and a lot of pampering from both Louis and the boys, Harry was finally healed. He was extremely glad that school wasn't in session because he didn't know what he would have done with Louis gone all day. Today was the day Harry would be going back to work and he was happy about it. He loved being at home with the family of course but he genuinely enjoyed his job.
"Alright love please be careful. Take it easy."
"I will Lou, plus, I'm just a receptionist. It's not like I put a lot of stress on my body anyway."
"That's true but still, I just want to make sure you're okay. Have a good day at work though love and if you start to feel tired just call me and I'll go get you."
"I will, I'll see you later. I love you."
"I love you too." Louis said as he planted a kiss on Harry's lips before watching him walk out the door.
Harry quickly arrived at work seeing as it was only a few roads away. He parked then made his way into the building.
"Harry it's nice to have you back, how are you?" Olivia, the other receptionist, asked him.
"I'm doing great, everything healed nicely and Louis and the boys did a great job of taking care of me." Olivia was one of the only people outside of the family that knew about Harry's ability to have children. When he had started working at the hospital he had immediately connected with her and they became really close. She became like a sister to him and he felt like he could trust her. When he told her about his condition and about the boys she didn't even bat an eye, instead she offered support and was understanding.
"That's wonderful. Speaking of the boys, how are they? I haven't seen them in forever."
"I'm worried about the bond between Niall and Ashton. Ashton isn't picking up on sign language as quickly as we'd hoped and Niall is giving up on trying to communicate in a different way. I'm afraid that they're going to completely grow apart if we don't find a solution soon."
"Don't stress about it too much H, you just need to instill more discipline in them both. For example, make Ashton sit down with you or Louis for a certain amount of time a day and learn sign language. But at the same time, make Niall get out of his comfort zone and find other ways to communicate every once in awhile. It sucks, but he needs to learn that the world won't always accommodate for him and that he needs to learn how to make it work for him."
"Yeah, yeah you're right. Thanks Liv that helps a lot actually. I'll talk to Louis about it tonight and hopefully we can start enforcing it tomorrow."
Harry and Olivia continued talking about random things, of course, stopping when they needed to help someone. It was a fairly uneventful day though.
Harry had about fifteen minutes left of his shift and he was about to just leave early when the door opened and a little girl walked in. She was about five, extremely skinny, bald, and she looked weak. What shocked Harry even more was the fact that she was alone. He expected parents to walk in behind her but there was no one so Harry quickly rushed over to help her seeing as she looked like she was going to fall over at any minute.
"Hey love my name is Harry, are you alright? Where are your mum and dad?"
"M' Lauren. Don't have a dad, and mum is busy."
"Why are you here by yourself, you're way too little and it's dangerous to walk here alone. How old are you?"
"I'm five, I had to come because I need chemo. Mum is too busy to take me so she told me to go by myself. I don't have no choice, I need my medicine, please don't send me home." She said as tears filled her eyes causing Harry to quickly hug her.
"No love don't cry. I won't send you home, in fact, how about if I stay with you during the chemo so you don't have to be alone?" He was tired and was looking forward to being able to go home but he knew he had made the right choice when he saw her eyes light up. He would just have to call Louis and explain what was going on.
"Thank you, I hate doing it alone, I get scared." She had done it alone before? Did her mum ever come with her?
"Well you won't have to be scared anymore love. Now come on over to meet my friend Olivia, she can get you checked in." Olivia smiled and checked them in just as Harry had said. They were about to walk away when Harry leaned down and whispered in Olivia's ear. "Call child protective services and look through Lauren's files, something seriously isn't right here." before picking Lauren up and carrying her off to the chemotherapy treatment room.
So what do you think is Lauren's home situation/back story?
