I was fidgeting in my seat and my palms were starting to sweat. My heart was trying to beat out of my chest. This was so hard, how do I tell my sister that I’m the reason Aiden doesn’t want to be with her now, and how do I tell her she’s the reason he didn’t want to be with me then?
Geez, he really is one of a kind isn’t he?
Gathering all the courage I could, I began what was the hardest confession I ever had to make and prayed my sister would understand my choice to spare her the knowledge.
“Whatever it is can’t be that bad, come on, just say it.” Megan insisted.
She had no idea.
“Alright, but you have to promise to listen to everything I’m about to tell you without storming off. You can’t give me the silent treatment for days afterwards either.” I negotiated.
“No, you have to pinky swear with me.” I said seriously.
“Come on Harmony we’re teenagers not five year olds.” she was getting fed up with me but pinky swearing was sacred to us, whether five or seventeen, you didn’t go back on a pinky swear.
I gave her the look that said I wasn’t going to budge on this and she finally gave in, “Oh, alright.” She raised her pinky to mine and the deal was made.
“Okay, so you know how Aiden has found his mate which is why you can’t be together? Well, there’s a huge problem with his story. He couldn’t have met her while he was back home this week, because he already met her a year ago.” I started.
She let it sink in for awhile, “What? He had a mate for a year and you knew about it? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I knew he didn’t want to be with her, he loved you and wanted only you. You have a good heart and would’ve made him choose her even though you loved him. I didn’t want you hurt, Megan. You’re always trying your hardest to make others happy, Aiden made you happy and I thought it was about time you had that for yourself.” I tried to make her understand.
“Oh Harmony, that’s sweet, but you had to know I would never want someone else to be hurt by my actions, and by staying with Aiden when he was meant for her, must have been heartbreaking for her. That poor girl, the pain she must have felt when he rejected her. I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy. How could Aiden do that, and why?” Megan thought out loud.
This was good, if I could get her to concentrate on the how’s and why’s of it, maybe I wouldn’t have to tell her the who.
“Who is this girl? Do I know her, I need to apologize for everything.” She added.
Guess luck wasn’t on my side today.
“He said he was tired of having his future chosen for him, moving away from the pack and becoming Alpha. You were the only choice he ever made in his life and he wasn’t going to let fate choose who he would be with. It was the only control he had in his life.”
