"We have all summer for that. I got to go. Bye." He said, hanging the phone up, leaving me speechless.
"I know this nigga did not just hang up on me." I said, throwing my phone down.
I made my way downstairs into the kitchen. Grabbing a box of popcorn out of one of the cabinets, I placed a bag into the microwave. I grabbed a big fluffy white blanket and laid it across the couch. I grabbed a can of Ginger Ale and sprinkled some hot sauce, salt, and butter on my popcorn.
"Guess it's just me, myself and I." I said, picking up the remote and trying to find a good movie to watch on HBO.
Chresanto
I couldn't believe how she still made my heart flutter after three years.
When I saw her, I wanted to run up to her, hug her and kiss her but then I remember that she wasn't mine. Just over the simple fact that I was the stupidest asshole ever in high school.
I regret ever breaking her heart and whatever else damage that I did. I just wish the I could go back in time and make everything better, but it's too late.
"Daddy, who was that nice lady at Ms. J's house?" Lani asked, interrupting me out of my deep thoughts.
"What lady are you talking about?" I asked her. For a two year old, she's really smart. She almost knows all of her ABC's and almost speaks as fluent as myself. I'm so proud to be calling her my child. "You know November, Darshay, and Lola."
"There she was by the bathroom when mommy was using it." She said, grabbing her two Barbie dolls off of the floor.
"What kind of hair did she have? Did you remember her name?"
"She had hair like the color red and I forgot her name I bad with names."
I nodded my head instantly knowing who she was talking about. "Was her name Brielle?"
"Yeah! I think that was her. How you know her?"
"She's just a old friend of mine." I replied.
"Why you stop being friends with her? She nice."
"When you grow up, you'll realize that you can't be friends with everyone around you. Sometimes it's best that you stop being friends."
"That why you have to make up with her. My friend Alicia make up everyday."
I laughed. "That's because you guys are little kids. When you grow up and learn how to be adults, you'll learn how much things change."
"Adults suck." She said, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Daddy doesn't suck, right?" I asked, pulling her up on my lap.
"Only you and mommy don't suck."
"Your mommy does suck! She's always being boring and lame!"
Lani laughed. "I'm telling mommy!"
"You can't tell her! I'll have to cut your foot off!"
"Then what are you going to do with it?"
"I'm gonna feed it to Lola's dog."
"Okay I won't tell! You can't cut my leg off!"
"Okay, deal." I said.
"When is mommy coming?" Lani asked her, laying her head in my lap.
"She should be here any minute."
"I want to wait for her but I sleepy."
"It's okay, go to sleep. I'll wake you up when mommy gets here."
"Okay." She said, snuggling into my lap. I turned Calliou on and closed the window blinds so that it was dark. I waited until she was completely sleep to take her up to her bedroom.
I shut the lights off and went back downstairs. As soon as I made it into the living room, Jamie walked inside.
"Hey, Chresanto." She greeted me.
"Sup." I said, nodding my head.
"Where is Lani?" She asked, setting her book bag down.
"I just put her to sleep."
"Thanks."
That's how most of our conversations went unless we were arguing. We get along sometimes just for Lani's sake. I do love her and could've seen her on another level besides my baby's mother but she's just to jealous to be in a relationship with someone like me.
And I couldn't handle being in a relationship with someone like her.
