Taken - 7

    "I'm a future version of you." She said.

    "What?" I tried to wrap my mind around that thought.

    "What I mean is, if you go with them, you will end up like me."

    "You know what they want? What the heck do they want from me?" I asked.

    "Sit back and I'll tell you everything." She said. I was suddenly quiet, eager for her to speak. To explain her story.

    "They took me too." My eyes widened. "I was just a normal, ordinary girl. Like you. Until they came. They stole me from my own house 5 years ago. They took me in a van across a sea of empty land until we came to a huge fortress. It was about 3 days after they took me we arrived. 

    "This fortress was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. I've seen pictures of big castles in storybooks from medieval times, but I didn't think any actually still existed. We went through a door in a huge wall of stone, guarded by 6 men. I was terrified.

    "We got inside and I was passed on to another guard while my captors were paid in gold coins. I was taken to a huge building where I was led through hallway after hallway until they took me to a large series of rooms filled with medical tools. I was told to sit on a bed and not move until someone came to see me. I did as they asked. When a "doctor" came to see me, he did the usual - check your eyes, your throat, ears, nose, that sort of thing. But then he made me take off my clothes and change into a...gown.

    "It wasn't like a pretty dress or anything. It was just a piece of fabric, tied in the back. Three women nurses came in and helped me lay down on the bed and put my feet up. He...poked around and prodded, uh...down there. It hurt. He took notes on his notepad the entire time."

    "Wait, he...had sex with you?" I asked, terrified.

    "No. He examined me. Medically. It was still scary. He didn't do anything sexual." Then he let a guard take me to my..."room". It was beautiful, actually. A large room with a big bed and big window. The only thing I hated was the window was barred and padlocked. The door also locked from the outside with a card. When he left me in there, I was still in the gown. I saw a nightgown on the bed so I put it on and went to sleep. When I woke up I saw a servant come into my room and set a tray down on the table next to me.

    "She said it was breakfast. My life was like that for a while. I soon got granted rights to explore the floor I lived on. Then I started my first menstrual cycle. I was informed by the nurses that it was normal. I thought that the whole week it lasted. Then a week after it ended, two men came to get me. They brought me down to the "hospital" and I was chained to a bed. A doctor came in and quickly explained what he was going to do. I was to be put to sleep, and while I was under anesthetic, I was to be impregnated."

    "How?" I asked.

   "They called it in-vitro. They took one of my eggs and fertilized it in a lab, then put the embryo back inside me to grow. It wasn't long before I noticed I was pregnant."

    "How old were you?"

    "14."

    "That's how old I am...what happened after you had the baby?"

    "I grew to love the child growing inside me. I was sad how it was conceived but I was happy that I would soon get to hold someone. Someone who loved me and needed me. But once I had the baby, they took her away from me and I never saw her again. A nurse told me she died. But there are some servants there who don't agree with what the Headmaster is doing."

    "Who is that?"

    "The man who runs the whole thing. The man who employs so many people - the doctors, the nurses, the guards, and the kidnappers. One of the servants told me the truth about people who live there."

    "What?" I asked.

    "They use us as vessels - things for the baby to grow in. They wanted to grow a baby outside of the womb but they don't have the technology yet. So they use us as incubators. Once they are born, they start experimenting with drugs and different kinds of medical tests. I don't know everything."

    "Why?" I wondered. "What do they want with a human baby?" 

    "You know that virus that is slowly wiping the Community out?" 

    "Yes. So far it's only affected the higher generations." I said, remembering the notices we've received. 

    "Well, some scientists are sure it will soon spread to everyone. They are experimenting on babies to create a miracle drug - to make the next generation impervious to any disease. But they need us to create the lab rats." She said. "So far, they have made me have 4 children. I had 3 girls and one boy."

    "So how are you living out here in the woods?"

    "I escaped. I couldn't deal with the pain of having my children taken away from me so I escaped. Other girls have tried to escape before but the headmaster...he will have them killed. I think it's a miracle I wasn't. I've been hiding out in these woods ever since." Suddenly she stopped and her eyes widened.

    "What?" I asked.

    "Shh you have to stay quiet. Follow me!" She crawled back through the tunnel, and climbed out of the hole, with me at her heels. She started to run. I heard the men shout behind us.

    "THERE THEY ARE! RUN!" I heard their pounding footsteps as they raced after us. I was terrified. I couldn't be caught - I had to go back to my family. Suddenly the girl in front of me stopped suddenly and gasped. She fell to her knees and hit the ground, unmoving. A large bloody hole was centered in the middle of her back.

    "Don't make us shoot you too." I heard them say. I stopped and sighed. Tears started to roll down my face. I was positive I could lose them. But obviously they had done this before. One of them tied my hands together again and we took a long walk back to the van. They re-chained the van's door and double padlocked it after throwing me inside. I hit the floor and started to cry, sobbing loudly as they started the vehicle and drove away. Now I would never see my family again.

So...now you know why they have kidnapped River. Now for the obvious question....do you think River will make it out alive? Hmmm....to be honest, I'm still not sure myself...xP
