"Are you sure this was your first time?" I joked to Steve as I rolled onto my side to face him. He chuckled, lying on his back with his arm propped under his head.
"Very sure." He nodded, looking at me.
"Well, you felt very experienced." I sat up, holding the sheets close to my chest.
"I think that's just the combination of what the serum enhanced and my super strength."
I giggled, watching him sit up as well. "Was that you saying very humbly that you have a big-"
"No!" He cut me off, going a deep shade of red, shaking his head in embarrassment. "That's not what I was saying at all."
"You have no reason to be embarrassed around me," I smiled reassuringly at him. "But how are you feeling?"
"I'm not sure I can describe it in words." He looked at his hands.
"No, if I recall correctly, you bit me right here." I said, leaning into him and kissing the nape of his neck. He chuckled, putting his arm around me and pulling me into him and flipping me over so he was cradling me.
"Yes, and as I can see, it's healed." He said, looking very skeptically at my neck. "Whereas none of my hickeys have healed and you bit me in a lot of places."
I laughed, shrugging. "What can I say? I like to leave my mark." He laughed softly, locking my fingers with his.
"You've left quite a few. I don't think I'll be taking off my shirt anytime soon."
"Or your trousers." I reminded him. "Did you forget that I marked your thighs, too?"
He blushed slightly and smiled shyly. "It's not that easy to forget."
I laughed, sitting up in his lap. "But you enjoyed it."
His smile grew wider as he looked up at me. "That I did. Although, can I ask you for a small favor?"
"Please don't tell Tony." He said quietly. "I'll never hear the end of it if you do."
"Well, he's going to find out sooner or later, but I promise you I will not tell Tony." I said. He smiled and nodded. We stayed quiet for a couple of minutes and then something that looked like a locket on his bedside table. I leaned over and picked it up, and analysed it.
"What's this?" I asked him.
"A compass." He said with a shy smile. I was about to question his shyness when I managed to get it open. It was a compass, just as he'd said, but inside was a picture in the lid. I recognised the pretty woman with the dark hair in sausage curls.
"Peggy Carter." I said quietly, admiring the cuteness of it all. I pieced it together, that the compass was to guide him back to her. "She's beautiful. This is beautiful."
"She is." Steve whispered.
"Never throw this away." I told him, closing it placing it back on his bedside table. "She was your first love and that is the cutest thing I've seen a man do. Never forget the first love."
He smiled, bucking his hips so that I fell off his lap and landed back at his side. I giggled, kicking him playfully before he pulled me closer. I rest my his chest as he put an arm around my shoulder. I looked up at him to see him smiling down at me.
Before I could say anything to him, I felt my blood run cold and my heart rate shot up. I sat up quickly, and got up off the bed, grabbing my underwear from the floor and putting it on.
"Have you sensed something?" Steve asked and I could hear him doing the same behind me.
"Something's wrong. Something is very wrong." I answered him before running to the guest room to grab my spare clothes. Just as I came running back into Steve's room with my top half on, I saw him on the phone with a look of dread on his face.
"Alright. We'll be there as soon as we can." He said before hanging up. He cleared his throat and busied himself with putting his clothes on.
"Steve?" I asked, my voice cracking. "Who was it? What's happened?"
"They've attacked again." He said with his back to me as he pulled his t-shirt over him. I pulled my shirt down, and buttoned my jeans.
"Your sister and your granddad are in hospital."
"What?" I thought I screamed but my voice came out a whisper. "Steve, what did you say?" I went over to him, and looked him in the eye. "It can't be."
"They attacked your sister and your grandad and they're both in the hospital right now."
I stayed quiet, staring at him with disbelief. I swallowed and put on a brave face. "Then we need to go." I said, my voice sounding a lot more confident than I did.
We were out minutes afterwards, and driving as fast as were legally allowed, my skin feeling far colder than when I first felt the chill.
I practically ran out of the car ams towards the hospital, Steve calling my name out and asking me to slow down. But I couldn't slow down, my family were hospitalised. I asked the receptionist where to go and I was off to the ICU unit before she even finished her sentence. When I reached there, the other members of the Avengers were at the end of the corridor, talking to one another.
"Where are they?" I approached Tony, my panic now settling in. He placed his hands on my shoulders.
"Listen, Lily's in a coma but she's stable." He said, his voice soft.
He took a moment to answer, looking back at Nat, the two of them exchanging a nod.
"No." I whispered.
"He didn't make it."
"No!" I screamed, my breathing quicker all of a sudden and my eyes burning with tears. I shook my head and took a step back, shaking my head with disbelief. "No!" I started sobbing loudly. I kept taking step backs, tears falling down my face as I tried to let information sink in.
My last remaining father figure was taken from me. And the last I saw him was a couple of weeks before, and I'd told him to shut up.
The memory just made me cry even more and eventually I just let my legs give way, and I fell to my knees, burying my face in my hands.
I felt a pair of arms wrap around me, and pull me closer. It was Steve. I buried my face into his chest and gripped his shirt as I let out all my anger and my sadness and mourned.
I lost my birth father to the Shadow.
I lost my adoptive father to the Shadow.
I lost my grandfather to the Shadow.
And I have never felt as empty as I did on the hospital floor as I poured my heart out in Steve's arms.
// Lol, okay, sorry for the really crappy chapter guys xD I've finished with school but I'm so bored and I've been feeling like shit for the past couple of days and unfortunately, its reflecting on my writing. I do apologise once again if it's too sloppy and rushed.
