"So how are we going to tell her?" Niall asked, squeezing Zayn's hand. He knew how wrong it was to be his boyfriend, to kiss him in the first place, when Perrie was still in the picture. He hated himself for it, but he couldn't help his feelings.

"I can't," Zayn choked after a long silence. "I can't stand the thought of her being so upset, Ni. I may not love her that way anymore, but she's like a sister to me at heart."

"I don't mean to sound like Liam, but you know it's the right thing to do. Plus, I know you don't cheat. It's not like we're official yet anyway," he replied softly.

There was a silence before Zayn spoke. "You're right. Maybe we should tell her now then."

"Why now?"

"Because I really want to be with you, Ni," he smiled, kissing his forehead. "I'm not going to pretend I love someone I don't anyway."

"Of course," Niall smiled as he rested his head on Zayn's shoulder. "But I'm coming with you."

Zayn and Niall went over to Perrie's flat about an hour later, both afraid of how she would react. Zayn was most afraid, however, as he was biting his lip so hard it bled a few times. Niall was nervous too, but nowhere near as much as Zayn.

Zayn knocked on the door, his hands shaking so much he could barely move them. He took a deep breath and relaxed just before Perrie opened the door.

"Hello," she sang, a smile spread across her face at the sight of Zayn. "What's up?"

"We need to talk," he replied as she let him in.

"What's this about?" she asked slowly as Zayn and Niall sat down on the couch.

"Us," he swallowed, staring at her with sorrowful eyes. He knew it was right and he didn't love her anymore, but a part of him didn't want to leave her. He wasn't sure whether or not it was spare feelings or him hating to see her upset, but he knew he had to do it. He knew he had to break up with her.

"Zayn, what is it?" Tears were already forming in her eyes, as if she knew what he was going to say.

"I think we should..." His voice trailed off, as he was choking on his own words.

"Oh." A tear went down her cheek, and she was struggling to fight the rest. "May I ask why?"

"That depends on how you're reacting to this," Zayn replied. "You are taking it better than I thought."

"It's because I'm hoping you didn't cheat again," she whispered, trying to laugh through her tears.

He paused, remembering the kiss. "Fuck."

Perrie stared at him blankly. "Tell me all about it."

"May I leave the room?" Niall asked slowly.

"Ni," he sighed. "I am not telling this story alone."

Niall took a deep breath and relaxed before nodding. "I'll stay."

"Alright." He turned to Perrie, who was very confused about what was going on. "It was yesterday, about three days after I quit smoking. We were watching The Notebook when I noticed something was wrong with Niall. He fell asleep in my lap, and I watched him sleep for a moment before turning back to the movie. I realized that I was in love with him."

"So how did you cheat?" Perrie asked in shock.

"We were talking about our crushes, and then he kissed me." He paused before speaking again. "It all happened so fast."

"Wow," she breathed. "Well I'm happy for you guys."

Zayn and Niall looked at each other before Niall spoke. "You are?"

"Yeah," she smiled. "You two are perfect for each other. I mean, you both have known each other forever and really do care about each other."

Both of them smiled, glad they approved. "So you're okay with it?" Zayn asked.

"Yeah," she breathed. "I think you two will actually last."

The two boys said their goodbyes and went on their way back to the flat. "We can be together now," Niall smiled, his fingers perfectly entwined with Zayn's.

"Yeah." He smiled wide as he kissed Niall's cheek. "Are you up for it?"

"What do you mean?"

"We're One Direction," he chuckled. "There will be lots of challenges."

Niall stared at him, the smile still on his face. "Bring it on." He kissed Zayn's lips gently before continuing to the flat.
