I woke up in the morning and rubbed my eyes. Today was my day off from my school. I went to the washroom and got freshed and changed into a comfortable dress. I went downstairs and started to help my mom to get the breakfast ready.
"I am so happy that you finally know how to cook," Mom said as she placed some plates on the table.
"Mom, I know I don't like cooking but it's easy," I said.
"Good morning Alexa," Dad said as he came downstairs and sat on the table.
"Good morning, dad," I said.
"Honey, make sure to dress Alexa properly. You know she doesn't take care of her beauty so I will let you do her makeup since you are a makeup artist," Dad said.
"Don't worry. Alexa is going to look fantastic," Mom said.
"Why mom? Why do I need to dress up?" I asked.
"It's a secret but you probably be happy with our decision," Dad said.
"What do you mean?" I asked and mom winked at me. Okay, they are planning something, I thought.
After we ate our breakfast, mom took me to my room and handed me a dress. "Go and change into that dress. We are going to your dad's friend's family for a party. You need to look beautiful," Mom said.
"But, why do I need to look beautiful?" I asked.
"Um . . . Good question but I guess it's a secret too," she smirked at me and pushed me into my room and closed the door.
"Mom, why did you locked me in my own room?!" I yelled. This is not making sense.
"Make sure to change into that dress, okay?" She said ignoring my question.
I unfolded the dress and looked at it and was shocked. This is a freaking party dress! Man, I hate party! The picture of the dress is at the bottom.
After wearing the party dress, I let my mom came in my room. She put me in front of a mirror and started to do my hair.
"Mom, why are we going to party?" I asked.
"Because we are," Mom said.
"But, I hate going to party," I said.
"Maybe you will like a party after you have somebody special," Mom said.
"You know, like a boy that you might like."
I started to laugh. "Mom, you think I am that beautiful that boys will chase to become my boyfriend? That's impossible!"
"That's because . . . All you do is work and study. You don't even give some time for yourself," she said.
"Mom, you know I don't like to be dependent on others. That's why I want to work to pay for my needs," I said.
"And that's why we are so proud of you. But you need somebody in your life, sweetheart, who can take care of you and be on your side all the time," she said as she started to do my make up.
"I don't know, mom. All the guys that I find in my school are a bunch of players. I mean, if you want a relationship, shouldn't you stick with one partner instead of playing around will all other girls. And it's not only boys. Girls do it too which is so disappointing. They don't even want to have true love. All they want is to show off how much sexy their boyfriend or girlfriend is," I said.
"And that's why we will find a perfect prince for you who deserves you and I am sure you will find true love in him," Mom said as she hugged me from behind. "Then we will get you married and we will see you having kids," she smiled. "I really want to see how do your children look like."
"Mom! You are thinking too much! And, I don't want to get married now. I want to spend more time with you," I said as I hugged my mom but soon realize that she was crying a bit. "Mom?"
"Sorry," she whipped her tears. "I was wondering how fast you grew up and how beautiful you will look in a bride's dress."
"Mom, I am telling you. Getting a groom for your stupid daughter would take tons of time. So whip those tears from your eyes," I said as I saw her whipping her to tears. But really, why is she suddenly talking about marriage? She never acts like this.
In the evening . . .
We went in a huge resort at the pool. The resort was very fancy. Man, my dad's friend might be rich. The picture of the resort is below.
We entered the huge resort and loud music was playing and we saw people were dancing and chatting. The swimming pool was huge. On a side, I could see a very big poster written, 'The Engagement Party.'
Suddenly, we saw Mr. Onice and his wife. Mr. Onice is dad's very close friend and his son and I was the best friend in elementary. But then, they went to America and we lost contact. But I really do missed him. We used to fight a lot before but after he went to the US, I started to feel lonely. His name was Ryan. But his parents was there and he was not with them. Where was he?
"His Teres!" Dad said as he hugged Mr. Onice.
"Hey!" He hugged dad.
Our moms hugged each other.
"Oh, my!" Mrs. Onice looked at me. "She looks beautiful. Is she our old Alexa?"
"Yes, and thank you," I said.
"Wow, she has grown up to be a lovely woman," Mr. Onice said.
I smiled at him and then looked at my mom. "Mom, whose engagement party it this?"
Mr. And Mrs. Onice looked at me in shock. "You didn't tell her?" Mr. Onice asked mom.
"No, we thought we might want to surprise her a bit," Mom giggled.
Mrs. Onice smiled at me as she came closer to me and hugged me. Then she touched my cheeks and said, "did you missed Ryan?"
"Yes, I mean, he is my friend," I said.
"So we thought of a way to do something that you won't miss Ryan anymore," she said.
I looked at others suspiciously. Mom started to laugh a little and dad winked at me.
"We thought of making you and Ryan get engage so you wouldn't miss each other anymore. Isn't that a good idea?" She said.
I looked at her in shock. Me and Ryan . . . Engagement?
