"First off we haven't talked because of your disrespect towards my relationship and second I am not alone I have Cordell and Grace. So thanks for your concern but I am fine, you can leave now."
"So you are still seeing that man," she said with such hatred. I sighed and leaned back in my chair. "Yes I am still seeing him."
"Even after I told you that man was just using you! I try to guide you the right way and yet you refuse to listen. Now don't come running to me when he breaks your heart just like the last one." I stood up and walked over to the front of my desk. "Trust me the day I come running to you will be the day I stop giving a damn."
"How dare you talk to me like that I am your mother?!"
"You are not my mother and yo have never been my mother. The only reason I continue to let you in my life is because of part of me still thinks you will change actually start giving a damn about me and what I want. But every time you prove me wrong so I am officially done. From this day forward you do not have to worry about who I am dating or who is going to break my heart because it is none of your damn business. I am going to do you just like dad did, don't call me and don't stop by because at this point I am tired of your shit. The only person you have ever cared about is yourself so from now on you can just worry about yourself like always. You can leave now." I went back to my seat and started working on what I was doing before she came in. I was tired of trying to please her when everything I did seemed to always be wrong. She has never asked me what I wanted in life or what I wanted to be just what she wanted.
When the clock struck three I had to go since I told Cordell I would pick up Sapphire. He was worried it would be too much to ask but I didn't mind since it would be the first night I would staying at his place. He had been bugging me to spend the night at his place and I finally gave in. Besides the only reason I was picking up Sapphire was because he had a meeting and his grandparents were out of town.
"Leaving so early?"
"Yea gotta go take care of something."
"I bet it's that new man you hiding from me."
"I'm not hiding anything from you; you will meet him soon I promise."
Once I got Sapphire I had to go back to my place since I didn't have time to pack this morning. Sapphire was knocked out in the backseat so I had to pick her up and carry her inside. I laid her on the couch and went to pack. I took out a suitcase and packed my things for at least three days. When I had everything and went downstairs I saw Sapphire watching TV. "I see you are up."
"Sorry I fell asleep."
"No problem lady bug, if you are tired you can take a nap I got you." She smiled like I said the best thing in the world. "Alright let's go. I think we may have to stop at the store though so we can at least have a decent meal for dinner."
"Can we have grilled cheese?!"
"How about we have spicy chili with grilled cheese?"
"I like that idea."
"Then that is what we shall have."
After we got everything we needed for dinner along with some other things for breakfast and to snack on. Lately I felt like I was always in the grocery store. The whole ride home Sapphire and I sang along to Taylor Swift Shake it Off. At first I hated the sung but Sapphire had the CD and made me play it on repeat so eventually I got used to it.
Once I put all the food away I went upstairs to change into something more comfortable to cook in. I texted Cordell we were home and he sent a smiley face. This was my first official time here so I got lost trying to find the master bedroom. His house was huge but perfect at the same time. You could tell he had money by just stepping foot in the door. When I did finally find the bedroom I changed into grey sweat shorts and a black tank.
"What you doing lady bug," I asked coming downstairs. "Trying to do my homework." She scrunched up her face as if she was close to bursting. "How about this, you help me make dinner and while it is cooking I will help you with what you are struggling with."
We had just finished putting everything in the pot for the chili and had the grilled cheese on low too. "Okay let's get to work on this homework." We were on the last problem when Sapphire stopped like she was thinking about something.
"What's on your mind lady bug?"
"I was just wondering if you were going to be moving in with us." She looked at me like she was expecting an answer right away but I didn't have an answer for her at all.
"Wow it smells good in here," Cordell said coming around the corner allowing me to breathe. I had never been so happy to see him in my life. "Me and Lelaih made chili and grilled cheese."
"In that case you should go and put your things up and wash your hands before dinner is finished." She got off the stool and ran upstairs. I went to check on the chili and took the grilled cheese off the stove. "You know I heard the conservation you two were having," he said leaning up against the counter. I froze and pretended like I didn't hear him. "Lelaih."
"Look at me." I slowly looked at him and sighed. "I know you have been through some things with your ex but I am not him. I am trying my best to be patient and let this relationship progress at its own pace but I refuse to be punished for some other boy's mistake."
"That's not what I'm trying to do Cordell."
"Then why don't you move in with me?"
"Cordell we are just getting to a place where we understand each other and our pasts but when it comes to moving in with each other I just feel like that is too much. You have to understand I never thought I would ever live with a man again so I just need some time to think it through." He walked over to me and turned me to him. "I can understand that but I am telling you Lelaih I am invested in this relationship and believe we can go the distance but I will not stay around and be punished for something a boy did. I am a man I know what I want and what I want is you."
"Lelaih," Sapphire screamed coming into the kitchen. "What's up lady bug?"
"Grace is on the phone." She handed me the phone. "Isn't it a little too late to be calling to chat?" I froze at the words she spoke to me next. I couldn't believe something like this could happen. "What is it," Cordell asked turning me to him. "Damien took Trinity."
