Chapter Nine - My Trials

Annabeth was having the time of her life up on stage. Sure, she'd enjoyed it before when she did her previous concerts, but there was something about this one which made her feel happier; more alive.

"Are you ready guys?" She called out to the crowd of fans. Everyone screamed in reply. "Alright, for this last song we're going to make this arena glow! Turn on your mobile phone's light and lets shine bright!"

The band struck up the music and Annabeth skipped to the other side of the stage. She stood there, waiting for her cue as the music went from upbeat and happy to slow and sad.

"I fell; I flew
I cried; I died inside
I fell; I flew
I stood; And I stood tall."

As she sang, the crowd waved their phones with their flashing lights around.

"You used to make me laugh
But now all I can do is cry
Cry over your dead body
It's not who I want to be.

"It feels like you're shooting me with poison
I know the feeling
You've done it before."

Annabeth was ready as the music went upbeat again.

"My trials
The trials of my life
When I pulled myself up
You pushed me back down.

"My trials
The trials of a war
I want to hold you close
But you always just ignore.

"I tried; I swam seven seas
I cried; And you were standing right in front of me.

"I wish you could just leave me alone
It's not my fault
That I broke your heart; it's yours.

"My trials
The trials of my life
When I pulled myself up
You pushed me back down.

"My trials
The trials of a war
I want to hold you close
But you always just ignore.

"You think that you can tell me what to do
But all you need to do is tell me to stay true.

"Be true to myself
Not true to you
To you..."

This time the chorus went sad again, almost like a slow song. The crowd sang with Annabeth, the voices filling the stadium along with the glows from everyone's phones.

"My trials
The trials of my life
When I pull myself up
You push me back down.

"My trials
The trials of a war
I want to hold you close
But you always just ignore.

"You're always letting go
You're always letting go
Why can't you hold on a little longer.

"Maybe then there'll be some hope for you and me
But until then, my trials are priority
The trials of war
I wish I could just pull myself up
Without you pushing me back down.

"My trials
Your trials too
I want to hold you close
But you always let go
Let go of me.

"Thank you New York City!" Annabeth cried, as she stood on the platform which would lower her down below stage.

But as she went down, her eyes caught someone in the crowd hurrying onto the stage. Before she could get a closer look however, she was below the stage.

The autograph session seemed to take forever. Annabeth smiled and took so photos and answered question upon question that by the end of it she was dragging herself back through the tunnels to her dressing room.

Suddenly, as she came to a cross section between hallways, someone dived out and pinned her to the wall. Annabeth's eyes widened as she struggled against the person's body.

"You're not going anywhere, princess." The man sneered and took Annabeth's phone from her hand where she had been texting Piper about how the concert went.

Annabeth whacked him in the arm as she flailed around but the man was quicker, pinning her arms to the wall above her head as he brought up the camera on Annabeth's phone.

"What are you..." Annabeth was cut off as the man roughly kissed her on the mouth.

Annabeth knew those lips. She had kissed them before.

Luke.

When he broke off from the kiss, Annabeth waited a few seconds as he relaxed away from her a bit before she judo-flipped him into the ground, grabbing her phone as she sprinted away from him.

"You can't stop the truth, Annabeth!" Luke shouted from the ground as Annabeth raced into her dressing room and locked the door shut tightly after her.

But when she looked down at her phone again, she saw that Luke had already posted the picture to her Twitter page.
