Theia was gasping.

her lungs sticky with pain.

the wave had stolen her light and her skin no longer glowed.

"do you love me yet?" Erebus whispered.

"I will not love you-" she breathed, "-because I am afraid."

his breath curled around him like black smoke.

"then you will not love at all."

he threw out his hand and Theia was knocked against the wall, which crumbled and fell away.

darkness surged from his fingers, getting caught in her hair.

"you should've thanked me," he said, walking over to her and kicking her violently in the ribs.

she rolled backwards, glitter trickling from her nose.

"you should've loved me."

he stomped down on her arm and watched her wince.

"I destroyed the world for you and you try to hurt me?"

another blow, this time to her head.

"stop," she whimpered and Erebus stilled.

"please, Erebus. if you love me, you will stop."

and he did stop, the blackness retreating back to his skin.

for a moment, he was just Erebus.

the boy Theia had once loved, who everyday would make things better.

but now he was a monster, he was the darkness.

"do you love me now?" he asked, kneeling down beside her.

"Erebus," she smiled.

her hand came up to his cheek and his eyes fluttered shut.

what he didn't know, was that behind her back Theia had formed a dagger from her remaining light.

and as Erebus smiled, Theia brought forth her knife and buried it in his heart.
