Estella watched as everyone was finding their seats at their house tables in the Great Hall. At the front of the hall, she saw the sorting hat, sitting on it's stool waiting for it's annual job to start. Her attention to her surroundings was cut off when she heard Padma turn towards her to say, "People are saying that Harry Potter fainted on the train".
"You're still talking about th-" Estella started but was cut off when the doors opened. Professor McGonagall entered, leading a bunch of first years across the hall to the front. The sorting ceremony began without any more words from the two girls.
The lights of the castle shined so bright, they reflected off of the water. Estella looked up in awe. Never had she seen a sight so beautiful. She grew a sense of pride, knowing that this was the school she would attend for the next seven years.
Once the first years got off of the boats and made their way inside the castle, they were met with a witch standing at the top of the stairway. When everyone was towards the top, the witch started to give a brief explanation of what was to happen in a few moments. Estella remembered talking to her mother about the different houses of Hogwarts. It didn't matter to her which one she ended up in. She just wanted to make something of herself. Once the professor was finished, she excused herself to go see if the ceremony was ready to begin.
"It's true then, what they were saying on the train," spoke Draco Malfoy, "Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts."
Whispers broke out as Estella looked to her right to see the Harry Potter standing right next to her.
"This is Crabbe and Goyle," Malfoy said motioning towards the two boys standing on the other side of Estella.
"And I'm Malfoy. Draco Malfoy."
A snort came from a red head that Estella saw earlier at the station.
"You think my name's funny, do you?" Started Malfoy turning his attention to the other boy, "no need to ask you your's. Red hair and a hand-me-down robe. You must be a Weasley."
Malfoy turned his head back to Harry and said, "you'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others, Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there."
The boy stuck his hand out for Harry to shake. Harry looked down at it then looked back up.
"I think I can tell the wrong sort for myself, thanks," said the black haired boy.
By then the professor had come back to let them know that it was time to start the ceremony. Everyone followed her into the Great Hall. Four long tables stretched across the hall with all of the other students sitting at them. Estella looked up to see the night sky. Inside of the room?
"It's not real, the ceiling," said the voice of a girl who was walking next to Estella, "it's just bewitched to look like the night sky. I read about it in 'Hogwarts, a History'".
"It's really pretty," commented Estella.
"I agree," said the bushy brown haired girl. By then everyone had reached the front of the hall and was scattering around to make room.
"I'm Hermione Granger, by the way," said the girl who was still standing next to Estella.
"I'm Estella Raney," she greeted with a smile.
